Job description
- Course Leadership and Curriculum Development: Design, implement, and continuously refine the Dental Anatomy & Restorative Dentistry curriculum, ensuring logical progression from basic tooth morphology and terminology to applied functional anatomy and restorative principles. Maintain alignment with institutional learning outcomes, CODA standards, and the overall DDS curriculum.
- Pre-Clinical Laboratory Oversight: Oversee pre-clinical laboratory instruction and operations related to dental anatomy and restorative simulation exercises, including tooth carving, waxing, morphology analysis, and foundational restorative procedures. Ensure laboratories are safe, functional, and equipped with the necessary materials and resources.
- Instruction and Student Skill Development: Deliver didactic and laboratory instruction in dental morphology, occlusion, terminology, and foundational restorative concepts. Provide demonstrations, clear instructional guidance, and individualized feedback to support student skill acquisition and readiness for simulation and clinical training.
- Assessment and Student Evaluation: Develop and administer written examinations, practical assessments, and competency evaluations that measure student proficiency in dental anatomy and pre-clinical restorative skills. Establish grading rubrics and calibration standards and provide structured feedback and remediation support as needed.
- Faculty Coordination and Development: Coordinate faculty and instructors participating in the course, ensuring calibration of teaching and evaluation standards.
- Mentor junior faculty and adjunct instructors in effective instructional strategies and simulation-based teaching methods.
- Curriculum Integration: Collaborate with the Associate Dean for Dental Education and other academic leaders to integrate dental anatomy instruction with restorative dentistry, occlusion, simulation clinic, and subsequent clinical coursework to support students' progression through the curriculum.
- Resource Management and Operational Support: Assist with planning and allocation of resources required for dental anatomy and pre-clinical restorative instruction, including materials, equipment, and laboratory maintenance, ensuring efficient and effective course operations.
- Compliance and Safety: Ensure all laboratory activities comply with university policies and regulatory standards related to safety, infection control, equipment use, and educational laboratory practices.
- Continuous Quality Improvement: Lead course review and quality improvement initiatives by analyzing student performance data, assessment outcomes, and course evaluations to enhance curriculum effectiveness and instructional quality.
- Academic Service and Student Support: Participate in curriculum committees, accreditation preparation, and academic advising activities, and provide guidance to students regarding course performance and academic progress.
- DDS/DMD or equivalent degree from a CODA-accredited institution.
- Eligibility for dental licensure in New York State.
- Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience, including patient care, academic teaching, and curriculum development.
- Demonstrated experience in clinical education support, faculty practice oversight, and compliance with CODA and institutional accreditation standards.
- Familiarity with HIPAA, FERPA, OSHA, and laws/regulations pertaining to the practice of dentistry in New York State.
- Leadership in Education and Training: Proven leadership in dental education or a related field, with experience in curriculum development and teaching methodologies.
- Operational Management: Strong organizational and operational skills, with the ability to manage laboratory environments, resources, and budgets effectively.
- Knowledge of Dental Procedures and Techniques: In-depth understanding of dental procedures, technologies, and standards essential to pre-clinical education.
- Collaborative and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with faculty, students, and academic leaders.
- Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to assess student progress, resolve operational challenges, and make data-informed decisions that enhance educational outcomes.
- Commitment to Student Development: Dedication to supporting student learning, professional growth, and preparation for clinical practice.
