Job Description Summary
The Department of Chemistry at Oakland University invites applications for a full-time faculty position in chemistry, with an anticipated start date of August 15, 2026. The appointment at the rank of Special Instructor is a full-time, teaching-focused faculty position that leads to job security equivalent to tenure. Special Instructors are expected to teach three courses (or the equivalent) during both the Fall and Winter semesters and to contribute to departmental service.
The department offers courses that support a wide range of majors and programs, including Chemistry, Biology, Health Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, and Engineering. The successful candidate will be expected to teach introductory/foundational lecture and laboratory courses within the chemistry curriculum. Potential teaching assignments include general chemistry, analytical chemistry, and related chemistry courses aligned with departmental needs and the candidate's expertise. Opportunities for additional compensation may be available through summer teaching assignments during the May-August term.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in chemistry, or a related field, and have experience in teaching both lecture and laboratory courses in general chemistry. Candidates that have demonstrated experience in course development, teaching courses at multiple levels, and designing courses in different modalities (e.g., online vs. in person) will be given favorable consideration.
