Job description

Position Summary

The Chief Operating Officer’s main focus is improving the operational efficiency of the business and enhancing customers’ dining experience.  Ensure menu and food development are of a high quality, oversee the recruitment of staff and adherence to food safety regulations and most importantly the day-to-day management of the business.  This position reports to the CEO.

Position Responsibilities

  • Drives profitable growth and ensures long-term vitality of the business via strategy and effective management. Sets, recommends, and implements business strategy, short-and long-term objectives and goals; develops presents and accomplishes approved annual plan and provides leadership for management team. Knows the business model, business drivers and mission, critical technical and functional skills needed to do the job at various levels in management of the business.
  • Manage profitable and effective operations, strategies, and initiatives to ensure financial success. Establishes effective business model and organization structure to deliver results for the business.  Positions the organization to remain competitive in the industry. Develops both short- and long-term strategies that move the business to desired profit and competitive state. Ensures short-term and long-term implementation plans are in place and executed to support strategy.
  • Collaborates closely with other members of the senior management team to oversee business operations. Solely responsible for the operations and cash flow of the business.
  • Ensures company has systems and controls, policy and processes are in place to achieve regulatory requirements including financial, operating, technology, etc.
  • Serves as the leader to ensure recruiting and retention strategies match short and long-term business needs; enables training, coaching, development, and direction for employees to achieve the highest level of contribution to the company.
  • Builds and maintains key relationships with team members, management team, community, and industry to ensure company is positioned effectively in the marketplace. Works towards consensus by establishing shared goals and win-win solutions.
  • Extensive overnight travel will be required

Qualifications Required

  • Executive/Senior Management role (7 years’ experience); restaurant industry experience, serving as a Senior VP of Ops, or COO
  • Restaurant experience must include Full Service, Buffets, or High-Volume Institutional Contract Services
  • Ability and desire to build community relations and promote the growth of the concept within and outside of the business
  • Superior working knowledge of industry financials (building sales, product costs, labor management, etc.)
  • Excellent people and communication skills. Leadership that reflects our core values; teamwork, equal treatment of all, honesty, willingness to go above and beyond in support of team members, open and honest communication style
  • Strong guest-oriented philosophy at all times
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Strong ability to adapt to changing circumstances and develop solutions to new and unique problems/challenges
  • Ability to train and develop employees with respect to technical skills and interpersonal/soft skills
