Major Gifts Officer

Sinapis

Indianapolis, IN • On-site

Full-time

Posted 26 days ago

Job description

Sinapis is seeking a driven, entrepreneurial fundraising professional to build and manage a robust major gift portfolio, including outreach and engagement for capital campaign giving, as the second Major Gifts Officer on our Development Team. This is a unique opportunity for a self-starter to join a dynamic team united around a compelling mission, establishing a long-term, vibrant, and engaged constituency of major Sinapis supporters. Sinapis has experienced strong growth over the past few years, and the right candidate will step into a healthy organization positioned for its next stage of expansion.

The Major Gifts Officer will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining their own major gift portfolio, executing every stage of the major gift plan including research and identification of prospects, cultivation and relationship management, proposal development and solicitation, and ongoing donor stewardship. Reporting to the CEO, the Major Gifts Officer will take initiative to grow their portfolio of major donors, working closely with the CEO and the Development Team to coordinate prospect strategy.

Reporting to: CEO

Location: Remote, based in a major U.S. metro area

Hours: Full-time

Compensation: Competitive salary and benefits commensurate with experience and industry averages; ranges available upon request

Key responsibilities

  • Increase annual major gift revenue by $250,000 within two years from new and inherited donors

  • Manage a major gifts portfolio — qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding individuals

  • Conduct at least 20 quality relationship-building meetings per month, including at least 5 scheduled meetings per month with donors and Sinapis senior leadership

  • Help organize at least 1 regional in-person cultivation event per quarter

  • Contribute to a donor-centric major gifts approach alongside the CEO and other MGOs, working with the Development Team to ensure that efforts are integrated with existing development work

  • Coordinate with other MGOs on prospects and territories to ensure a consistent donor experience

  • Initiate and manage prospect research using internal files, giving history, and external research tools

  • Track portfolio activity, moves management, and gift entry in Salesforce

  • Partner with the Marketing Team to ensure donor and prospect outreach are aligned with Sinapis' brand and messaging

  • Travel as needed for donor visits and cultivation events

  • Demonstrate the Sinapis core values of being relational, excellent, joyful, open-handed, innovative, Christ-centered, eager to serve, and a wise steward (REJOICES)

  • Meet other needs of your manager and team as anticipated or assigned

Required qualifications

  • You're a Christian who wants to live out your God-given calling with a growing international organization

  • 3+ years in a direct major gift fundraising role, or relevant sales or donor relations experience

  • A heart for our mission and a passion for alleviating poverty through private sector development

  • Strong character and integrity, with high trustworthiness around confidential information

  • An undergraduate degree in business, communications, or a related field

  • Demonstrated success in donor and prospect cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship

  • Excellent written, verbal, and public speaking skills, with an engaging, professional presence

  • A relational, donor-centric approach — building long-term relationships and treating donors as co-investors in the mission, not transactions to close

  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity across time zones, cultures, and communication styles

Desired qualifications

  • Solid understanding of business, entrepreneurship, and missions

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence

  • Entrepreneurial, creative approach to fundraising in a small, lean organization

  • Prioritizes team unity and health over individual achievement

  • Views fundraising as ministry and vocation

What you can expect

  • Deep, fulfilling impact. Sinapis is impacting hundreds of thousands of lives economically, socially, and spiritually

  • Charting a new course for poverty alleviation and advancing the gospel in hard places. Philanthropic funding plays an essential role in making it possible for us to equip entrepreneurs to grow companies that provide jobs for the poor and fuel the growth of the church from inside challenging places

  • World-class economic development experience. We work at the frontier and the leading edge of private-sector development, and you'll gain excellent experience in enterprise solutions to poverty
