About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly experienced Commissioning Senior Superintendent to lead the end-to-end commissioning of mission-critical hyperscale data center facilities (100MW+). This is a senior field leadership role responsible for driving execution across mechanical, electrical, and controls systems in high-availability environments.

You will serve as the on-site commissioning authority, ensuring all systems are fully tested, integrated, and delivered in alignment with owner expectations, schedule milestones, and strict quality standards. This role requires deep technical expertise in MEP systems, strong field leadership, and the ability to coordinate complex, multi-trade commissioning efforts in fast-paced environments.


Position Summary

The Commissioning Senior Superintendent is responsible for leading all phases of commissioning from pre-functional testing through Integrated Systems Testing (IST) and final owner acceptance.

This role owns field execution for MEP commissioning activities, including mechanical HVAC systems, electrical distribution systems, and integrated controls platforms. The ideal candidate is a hands-on field leader who can manage large-scale commissioning efforts, drive schedule adherence, and ensure safe, reliable system startup in live data center environments.


Key ResponsibilitiesCommissioning Leadership
  • Lead on-site commissioning for all mechanical, electrical, and controls systems
  • Serve as the primary field authority for MEP commissioning execution and integration
  • Oversee all commissioning phases including pre-functional testing, functional performance testing, and IST
  • Ensure systems meet owner requirements, design intent, and operational readiness standards
MEP Systems Execution
  • Direct startup and energization of complex systems including:
    • HVAC systems, chillers, dry coolers, FCUs, pumps
    • Electrical systems including switchgear, UPS, generators
    • Building controls systems (BMS / EPMS)
  • Coordinate cross-discipline system integration in redundant, mission-critical environments
  • Ensure proper sequencing of mechanical and electrical systems during commissioning
Field Coordination & Quality Control
  • Conduct field walks, installation verification, and commissioning inspections
  • Track deficiencies, punch items, and corrective actions through closeout
  • Ensure compliance with design specifications, commissioning standards, and QA/QC requirements
  • Maintain strict adherence to safety protocols and energized work procedures
Planning & Scheduling
  • Develop and manage six-week look-ahead schedules and constraint logs
  • Identify risks early and implement recovery plans to maintain commissioning milestones
  • Apply lean construction principles including takt planning, pull planning, and zone mapping
  • Coordinate sequencing across trades to resolve conflicts and optimize workflow
Stakeholder Leadership
  • Partner with commissioning agents, contractors, engineers, and owner representatives
  • Lead daily and weekly commissioning coordination meetings
  • Communicate status updates, risks, and mitigation strategies to leadership and stakeholders
  • Align all parties around a unified execution plan for system turnover
Safety & Compliance
  • Enforce OSHA compliance and site safety standards at all times
  • Promote a zero-incident safety culture across all commissioning activities
  • Ensure safe execution of energization and startup procedures

QualificationsRequired:
  • 7–10+ years of field commissioning and supervisory experience
  • Proven experience on hyperscale data center projects (100MW+)
  • Current or recent Superintendent-level role with commissioning ownership
  • Strong mechanical expertise in HVAC systems (chillers, pumps, cooling systems)
  • Working knowledge of electrical systems (switchgear, UPS, generators)
  • Experience with BMS/EPMS and integrated controls systems
  • Proven experience leading IST, functional testing, and full commissioning cycles
  • Strong understanding of MEP construction in live mission-critical environments
  • Experience managing contractors, engineers, and client stakeholders in the field
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA safety standards and energized work practices
  • Proficiency in scheduling, planning, and field coordination tools
Preferred:
  • Owner’s representative or client-side commissioning experience
  • Experience with lean construction methodologies
  • Background in hyperscale, cloud, or mission-critical infrastructure environments
  • Strong executive-level communication and reporting skills
