About the role
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for a variety of duties that relate to the cleanliness, upkeep, and functionality of the physical structure of The Second City Chicago. This role involves working with various types of equipment and systems, such as lighting, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems, among others.
This is a full-time, hourly position reporting to the Facilities Manager.
Role Responsibilities
  • Inspect and maintain theater facilities and equipment to ensure they are in good working condition.
  • Support setup and teardown of theatre, classroom, and event spaces, including seating layouts, signage, décor, and stage or tech equipment as needed.
  • Coordinate with production, Front of House, and partner teams to ensure each event setup/teardown meets event requirements and safety standards.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs, cleaning filters, and painting.
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment and systems as needed.
  • Collaborate with other theater staff, such as stage managers, tech directors, and production crews, to ensure that equipment and systems are set up properly for each performance.
  • Assist with the installation and removal of equipment and sets for productions.
  • Maintain an organized storage system and inventory of spare parts, tools, and equipment.
  • Ensure that all work is performed safely and in accordance with industry standards and regulations.

Candidate Qualifications:
  • Graduation from a high school or equivalent accredited certification.
  • Basic knowledge of computers, internet, and email.
  • At least 2 years of experience with maintenance / repair work.
  • Able to comfortable lift items up to 40 pounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team-based, collaborative environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in high-pressure / time-sensitive situations.
  • Ability to work while standing, walking and crouching for at least 4 hours at a time.
  • Comfortable using a 6-foot step ladder according to safety best practices.
  • Basic understanding of theater equipment preferred, but not required.
