A client of Innova Solutions is immediately hiring for a HIM Coder
Position type: Full-time,Contract
Duration: 5+ Months
Location: Remote (Looking for candidates based out in HI, CA, WA or OR)
As a HIM Coder, you will:
The HIM Hospital Coder I is responsible for reviewing medical records and accurately assigning diagnosis and procedure codes in accordance with recognized coding guidelines and organizational standards.

  • Day to Day Responsibilities
    • Review inpatient and outpatient medical records daily to identify and assign accurate diagnosis and procedure codes.
    • Abstract clinical data and ensure coding is completed within required productivity and compliance timelines.
    • Apply ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS Level II guidelines to ensure proper code selection and sequencing.
    • Communicate with physicians and internal teams to clarify documentation, diagnoses, and procedures when needed.
    • Monitor coding accuracy, resolve discrepancies (including DRG-related issues), and maintain adherence to coding standards and policies.
The ideal candidate will have: 2+ years of recent hospital coding/abstracting experience, strong ICD-10/CPT knowledge, and an active CCA credential with eligibility for CCS/RHIT/RHIA.
  • Required Skills & Qualifications
    • 2+ years of recent hospital coding/abstracting experience within the last 5 years (inpatient and/or outpatient).
    • Certified Coding Associate (CCA) required; eligibility for CCS, RHIT, or RHIA preferred.
    • Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS Level II coding guidelines and sequencing rules.
    • Ability to interpret clinical documentation and communicate with physicians to clarify diagnoses/procedures.
    • Strong attention to detail, time management skills, and ability to meet productivity and quality standards in a remote environment.
  • Preferred Skills & Qualifications
    • Familiarity with CMS/JCAHO compliance standards, audit processes, and documentation improvement practices.
    • Strong proficiency in EMR/EHR systems and ability to resolve coding discrepancies independently.
