The University of Kansas Health System, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, is seeking aCancer-Focused Physician Scientist or Academic Pathologist.

We seek an accomplished investigator with a strong track record incancer biology, translational oncology, or precision diagnostics, whose work advances the understanding of tumor biology and enables innovative approaches to cancer diagnosis, treatment, and patient outcomes. Ideal candidates will have arobust publication recordand anindependently funded research program(or strong potential for sustained external funding).

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is undergoingtransformative growth, with a fully implementedsubspecialty practice modelsupporting a high-volume and diverse case mix. The department performsover 7 million laboratory tests annuallyand accessions over 65,000 surgical pathology cases, providing exceptional opportunities for clinicopathologic correlation and translational research.

The University of Kansas Cancer Center, the region's onlyNCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center - offers a rich, collaborative research ecosystem, including:

  • Acertified CAR-T cell therapy program
  • APrecision Medicine Center (COBRE-supported)
  • Strong infrastructure forbasic, translational, clinical, and population-based cancer research

About the Position:

  • Lead anindependent, externally funded research programin cancer-focused investigation
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across the department, The University of Kansas Cancer Center, and the broader academic community
  • Participate 25% to 30% on clinical service within a pathology subspecialty
  • Contribute tothe academic mission through graduate, medical student, and residency education

Required Qualifications:

  • MD or MD/PhD
  • Board Eligible/Board Certified in Anatomic and/or Clinical Pathology
  • Demonstrated excellence in research, with a focus on cancer biology or related disciplines
  • Eligible for medical licensure in Kansas and Missouri
