This effort will support the modernization and upgrade of enterprise voice, data, and fiber optic telecommunications systems across secure campus environments.
This is a hands-on role ideal for candidates with strong fiber optic experience across both inside plant (ISP) and outside plant (OSP) environments. Candidates should have experience installing, splicing, terminating, testing, troubleshooting, and documenting fiber optic cabling, along with experience supporting air-blown fiber, microduct systems, Cat6 copper, and telecommunications infrastructure in mission-critical environments.
Candidates must live within a commutable distance of Washington, DC to work onsite full time, or be willing to relocate to the Washington, DC area. Work will be completed during nighttime hours.
Responsibilities Include:
  • Lead installation, splicing, termination, testing, labeling, and troubleshooting of fiber optic cabling in accordance with BICSI and industry standards using OTDRs, optical loss test sets, power meters, and other certification tools.
  • Support inside plant and outside plant fiber optic infrastructure, including campus backbone, building entrance, MDF, IDF, and telecommunications room connectivity.
  • Install, route, pull, jet, or air-blow fiber through conduit, innerduct, microduct, cable tray, ladder rack, sleeves, maintenance holes, handholes, and building entrance pathways.
  • Perform fusion splicing, fiber preparation, splice tray management, fiber enclosure installation, and fiber distribution panel work.
  • Support air-blown fiber and microduct installation, including pathway preparation, tube identification, cable blowing, fiber routing, and related documentation.
  • Perform telecommunications infrastructure installations including fiber enclosures, splice cases, patch panels, racks, cabinets, cable trays, ladder racks, sleeves, innerduct, microduct, and related hardware.
  • Construct, repair, and validate pathways including conduit, tray, ladder rack, sleeves, fire-stopping, and building entrance pathways.
  • Familiar with working in confined spaces including maintenance holes, handholes, utility spaces, and restricted telecommunications environments.
  • Support campus-wide cabling refresh and modernization efforts across multiple buildings and secure environments.
  • Read and interpret telecom drawings, fiber route maps, floor plans, splice diagrams, cable records, wiring schematics, and installation documentation.
  • Conduct cable routing, dressing, bundling, slack storage, labeling, tagging, and documentation following customer standards and best practices.
  • Support cutovers, migrations, fiber backbone upgrades, emergency restorations, telecommunications room buildouts, and MDF/IDF upgrades.
  • Ensure all work complies with federal, security, safety, confined space, and site-specific requirements.
  • Maintain accurate installation documentation, splice records, fiber test results, redlines, and inventory tracking.
  • Coordinate with engineers, project managers, and government personnel to support project execution and timelines.

Required Qualifications:
  • Active Department of Defense DoD Top Secret clearance.
  • Experience leading small teams.
  • 5 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience installing and supporting fiber optic and structured cabling systems in enterprise, campus, or federal environments.
  • Hands-on experience with fiber optic cable installation, fusion splicing, termination, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience supporting both inside plant and outside plant telecommunications infrastructure.
  • Experience building telecommunications rooms, MDFs, IDFs, building entrance facilities, and fiber distribution spaces.
  • Hands-on experience with OTDRs, optical loss test sets, power meters, visual fault locators, and cable certification tools.
  • Skilled in confined space entry and associated rescue systems.
  • Ability to analyze and create telecom drawings, fiber diagrams, splice records, redlines, and installation documentation.
  • Ability to lift equipment, climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and perform work in physically demanding environments.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting secure federal or DoD environments.
  • Experience operating or coordinating cable blowers, compressors, generators, cable trailers, man lifts, and related fiber installation equipment.

  • Ability to work in active construction, data center, campus, utility, and secure government environments.
  • Ability to travel between buildings or work locations across a campus environment as needed.
  • Must be able to comply with all site safety and security requirements.

The projected salary range for this position is $80,000+ annually. Final compensation will be determined based on factors including years of relevant experience, active security clearance level, certifications, technical skillset, contract requirements, and overall qualifications.
