Job description

Job Overview

Company: Ohio Concrete Maintenance

Location: Parma, OH

Compensation: $120,000โ€“$125,000+ per year, based on experience, with performance and project-based bonus potential

Employment Type: Full-Time

Project Scope: Heavy highway, bridge repair, bridge overlays, culverts, structural concrete, DOT/public infrastructure, union and prevailing wage projects

Travel: Primarily regional work, with occasional out-of-town projects requiring overnight travel

Required Licenses / Certifications: None required at hire; OSHA, safety, and specialty certifications are a plus

The Opportunity

Ohio Concrete Maintenance is looking for a senior field leader who can help run complex bridge and heavy highway work across the Greater Cleveland / Northeast Ohio market and surrounding regions.

This is not a standard single-project Superintendent seat. The right person will work closely with leadership to oversee multiple active projects, support Foremen, coordinate crews and subcontractors, solve field issues, and help strengthen the companyโ€™s field operations as OCM continues to grow.

This role is ideal for someone with deep DOT, bridge, or heavy civil experience who wants more autonomy, more influence, and a real path to senior leadership without getting stuck inside a large corporate structure.

What Youโ€™ll Lead

  • Oversee day-to-day field execution across bridge, heavy highway, structural concrete, culvert, overlay, and DOT-related projects.
  • Manage multiple active jobs or project locations at once, depending on workload and season.
  • Support and guide Project Foremen, crew leads, operators, laborers, and subcontractors in the field.
  • Read, interpret, and execute project plans, specifications, elevations, DOT requirements, and field drawings.
  • Coordinate manpower, equipment, materials, subcontractors, schedules, and site logistics.
  • Keep work moving safely, efficiently, and within project requirements.
  • Identify and resolve field issues before they become schedule, quality, or cost problems.
  • Communicate clearly with ownership, project leadership, Foremen, inspectors, subcontractors, and crew members.
  • Help mentor strong Foremen and future field leaders as the company builds its next generation of leadership.
  • Step in hands-on when needed to keep work moving, while maintaining the leadership and oversight required of the role.

High-Value Experience

Experience with bridge deck paving and concrete paving equipment is highly valuable, especially:

  • Bidwell concrete pavers
  • Bridge deck overlays
  • Concrete screeding / paving operations
  • Equipment setup, rail setup, crown / cross-slope considerations, calibration, troubleshooting, and field operation
  • DOT bridge repair and structural concrete work
  • Bidwell experience is not the only thing we value, but it is a major plus for this role.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of heavy highway, bridge, DOT, structural concrete, or closely related civil construction experience.
  • Strong background leading field work on public infrastructure or DOT-style projects.
  • Proven ability to manage crews, Foremen, subcontractors, equipment, materials, and schedules.
  • Ability to read and interpret civil plans, bridge plans, specifications, elevations, and DOT requirements.
  • Strong understanding of safe field execution in active roadway, bridge, traffic-control, and heavy construction environments.
  • Comfortable working in a union / prevailing wage environment.
  • Willingness to travel regionally when project needs require it.
  • Ability to work occasional nights or adjusted schedules when traffic control, weather, temperature, or project conditions require it.
  • Strong leadership presence with the ability to earn respect from experienced field crews.
  • Practical, field-first problem-solving ability.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ohio DOT experience.
  • DOT experience from another state.
  • Bridge repair, bridge maintenance, bridge deck, overlay, or structural concrete experience.
  • Bidwell concrete paver experience.
  • Experience with culverts, structural repairs, concrete patching, overlays, bridge decks, or heavy highway rehabilitation.
  • Experience coordinating subcontractors while serving as the general contractor.
  • OSHA 10, OSHA 30, fall protection, rigging, or other safety certifications.
  • Ability to operate or assist with equipment such as skid steers, excavators, or similar machinery when needed.
  • Experience mentoring Foremen or helping develop future field leaders.

What Weโ€™re Looking For

The best fit for this role is someone who:

  • Has spent years in the field and understands how bridge and DOT work actually gets done.
  • Can lead without needing to be micromanaged.
  • Wants autonomy, responsibility, and a voice in how work is planned and executed.
  • Can work closely with ownership and field leadership.
  • Is comfortable being accountable for multiple moving pieces.
  • Can balance production, safety, quality, schedule, and crew morale.
  • Wants a long-term home with room to grow.

This may be a strong fit for someone currently at a larger heavy civil or bridge contractor who feels capped, overlooked, or limited by corporate structure and wants a clearer path into senior field leadership.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive annual compensation starting around $120,000โ€“$125,000+, with flexibility for the right experience.
  • Performance and project completion bonus potential.
  • Weekly pay cycle.
  • Union-backed medical, vision, and retirement benefits.
  • Paid time off, including holidays, vacation, and sick time.
  • Per diem and hotel accommodations for approved out-of-town assignments.
  • Company vehicle or vehicle support, depending on role needs and project assignment.
  • Company-provided smartphone or tablet.
  • Safety equipment provided.
  • Access to training, OSHA certifications, fall protection training, and manufacturer/specialty equipment training as needed.
  • Personal tool replacement program.
  • Employee-relief fund for emergency financial assistance.
  • Company events and employee appreciation perks.
