What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Brain Computer Interface (BCI) Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Brain Computer Interface Engineer, you need a strong background in neuroscience, biomedical engineering, or computer science, often supported by advanced degrees and relevant research experience. Familiarity with signal processing tools (such as MATLAB or Python), machine learning frameworks, and specialized hardware like EEG, ECoG, or implantable devices is typically required. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective collaboration skills help candidates stand out in this interdisciplinary field. These competencies are crucial to innovating and safely developing technologies that connect neural activity with external devices, advancing both research and clinical applications.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in Full Time Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) roles, and how can applicants prepare for them?

Professionals in Full Time Brain-Computer Interface roles often encounter challenges such as integrating hardware and software components, ensuring data accuracy, and navigating interdisciplinary collaboration between neuroscientists, engineers, and clinicians. Adapting to rapidly evolving BCI technologies and regulatory standards can also present difficulties. Applicants can prepare by strengthening their technical foundation in neuroscience and engineering, actively seeking out collaborative projects, and staying updated on the latest industry advancements and compliance requirements.

What is a Full Time Brain Computer Interface professional?

A Full Time Brain Computer Interface (BCI) professional is someone who works exclusively on developing, researching, or implementing technology that enables direct communication between the human brain and external devices. These professionals may come from backgrounds in neuroscience, engineering, computer science, or biomedical fields. Their daily tasks often include designing BCI hardware or software, analyzing brain signals, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to improve BCI applications for healthcare, communication, or human augmentation. Full time roles can be found in research institutions, tech companies, and healthcare organizations, focusing on both experimental and real-world BCI solutions.

Job description

Zyphra is an artificial intelligence company based in San Francisco, California.
The Role:
As a Principal Solutions Architect, you will serve as the primary technical authority in all partner and customer-facing engagements across Zyphra's full model portfolio and AI agent. You will articulate the technical value and differentiation of each of Zyphra's AI models and agentic systems, guide partners and customers from initial evaluation through successful integration, and act as the face of our research. This is not a support role. You will own the full technical GTM motion: building the narratives, converting strategic relationships, and supporting commercial outcomes.
You will also be a critical voice feeding partner and customer intelligence back into Zyphra's research and product roadmap. The best candidates for this role think like researchers, communicate like an industry expert and have the credibility to operate at the highest levels of technical and executive conversation.
You'll Work Across:
  • Serving as the primary technical advisor to strategic partners and customers across Zyphra's full AI model portfolio: including language, vision, audio, brain computer interface and agentic systems from initial discovery through deployment and expansion
  • Developing and delivering compelling technical narratives, demos, and evaluation frameworks that articulate the differentiation of each Zyphra model to audiences ranging from research teams and engineers to executives and business decision-makers
  • Leading technical discovery conversations with partners and customers to deeply understand their needs, use cases, and integration requirements, and translating those needs into actionable steps
  • Driving strategic partnership development and customer conversion, owning the technical relationship through the full commercial lifecycle
  • Synthesizing partner and customer intelligence into emerging use cases, unmet needs, deployment patterns, and competitive signals and delivering structured feedback that directly influences Zyphra's research and product priorities
  • Building and maintaining a library of reusable technical assets: model evaluation frameworks, fine-tuning guides, deployment architectures, API integration playbooks, and use-case demos that accelerate how partners and customers adopt Zyphra's models
  • Representing Zyphra at industry conferences, technical workshops, academic forums, and partner events to build credibility and expand Zyphra's technical presence
  • Collaborating closely with the GTM team, researchers, and engineers to align external technical positioning with internal capability and roadmap

What We're Looking For / Requirements:
  • Deep technical fluency across one or more of Zyphra's core domains: large language models and model architecture, multimodal AI, speech and audio synthesis, brain-computer interfaces and neural signal processing, or agentic AI systems
  • A PhD in machine learning, computer science, neuroscience or a closely related field is strongly preferred; exceptional candidates with a Master's degree and demonstrated research depth will be considered
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate highly technical concepts clearly and compellingly to diverse audiences from key engineers to executives without sacrificing accuracy or depth
  • Prior experience in a customer-facing, partner-facing, or commercially-oriented technical role, solutions architecture, applied research, developer relations, technical business development, or equivalent
  • Strong instincts for identifying where AI technology creates differentiated commercial value, and the ability to build a persuasive case around that value in competitive contexts
  • Comfort operating in ambiguous, fast-moving environments where the product is evolving, the market is forming, and the playbook is still being written
  • Excellent collaboration skills across research, engineering, and GTM teams

Qualifications / Additional Skills:
  • Research publications or contributions in AI, ML, audio synthesis, BCI, or related fields that demonstrate technical credibility with external scientific and engineering communities
  • Familiarity with model evaluation frameworks, benchmarking methodologies, and the ability to design and run rigorous technical assessments for partner or customer use cases
  • Experience developing integration architectures or deployment strategies for AI models in production environments, including API-based and on-premises configurations
  • Background in or exposure to developer-facing GTM motions: open-source community engagement, developer advocacy, or technical content creation
  • Understanding of enterprise AI adoption patterns, including the technical, organizational, and procurement dynamics that shape how large organizations evaluate and deploy AI systems
  • Comfort using AI tools (Claude, Cursor, etc.) to accelerate your own research, documentation, and technical communication work

Why Work at Zyphra:
  • Zyphra is building at the frontier of AI and this role sits at the center of how that work gets seen
  • You will build and help define the function, not inherit it; there is no legacy playbook to maintain
  • We move with the urgency of a startup and the rigor of a research lab, speed and quality are not in tension here, they're expected together
  • You will work directly alongside researchers, engineers, and founders, not through layers of management, which means your work gets seen, challenged, and improved fast
  • We believe GTM can be a demonstration of what AI can do; you will be empowered to prove that

Benefits and Perks:
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and FSA plans
  • Competitive compensation and 401(k) plan
  • Relocation and immigration support on a case-by-case basis
  • In-office snacks and meals provided
  • Unlimited PTO and company holidays
  • In-person team in San Francisco with a collaborative, high-energy environment
