About the role
Qalam Institute is seeking a motivated and adaptable IT Coordinator to serve as the primary point of contact for all technical and audio/visual needs across Qalam and Roots programs. This role is central to the smooth operation of classes, lectures, conferences, and community events, and requires someone who thrives in a fast-paced, hands-on environment. The ideal candidate is a quick learner, a strong communicator, and comfortable managing multiple responsibilities under pressure, often during evening and weekend events.
What you'll do
  • Serve as the main point of contact for IT and audio/visual support across all Qalam and Roots programs and events
  • Set up, operate, and troubleshoot TV displays, sound systems, and presentation equipment before and during events
  • Provide day-to-day technical support for staff and instructors on both macOS and Windows devices
  • Monitor and manage event technology in real time, resolving issues quickly and calmly under pressure
  • Coordinate with program staff to understand technical requirements for each event and prepare accordingly
  • Assist with livestreaming, recording, and broadcast setup for lectures, classes, and special events
  • Maintain inventory, organization, and basic upkeep of IT and A/V equipment
  • Support the setup and breakdown of technology for weekend and evening programs, sometimes involving long or irregular hours
  • Document recurring technical issues and help develop simple processes to prevent them going forward

Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of macOS and Windows operating systems
  • Experience operating TVs/displays and related presentation equipment
  • Ability to work a flexible, open schedule, including regular evenings and weekends
  • Willingness and ability to work shifts up to 12 hours during busy event periods
  • Strong multitasking skills with the ability to prioritize under pressure and tight timelines
  • Reliable, dependable, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a team
  • Strong communication skills and a customer-service mindset when supporting staff, instructors, and guests

Preferred / Learnable Qualifications
Prior experience with the following is a plus, but training will be provided for the right candidate who demonstrates the ability to learn quickly:
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or a related field
  • Q-SYS audio/video control systems
  • ReStream or similar livestreaming/multi-platform broadcast software
  • ATEM (Blackmagic Design) video switching software
