Job description

Position Overview and Responsibilities
The James/Guthridge Lab (james.omrf.org; guthridge.omrf.org) is a translational immunology laboratory focused on understanding the pathogenesis, prediction, prevention and precision treatment of immune-mediated diseases to improve patients’ lives. We have large, complex experimental datasets partnered with detailed clinical data to help better understand disease and improve treatments.
We are looking for an experienced Biostatistician or Bioinformatician to join our team to help analyze current and emerging data. This person will perform biostatistical or bioinformatic analyses of clinical trial and associated experimental data (including multi-omic datasets).

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing data analysis plans, including power calculations, and contributing statistical expertise to federal grant applications.
  • Performing a wide variety of statistical or bioinformatic analyses, as well as assisting with data visualization.
  • Evaluating the methods and procedures used to obtain data and ensuring validity, applicability, efficiency, accuracy, reliability and usability.
  • Reporting results of data analyses, including information in the form of graphs, charts, and tables.
  • Conveying results of analyses to non-statistical audiences.
  • Analyzing, interpreting data and preparing conclusions.
  • Identifying relationships and trends in data, as well as any factors that could affect the results of research.
  • Assisting scientists in designing experiments to facilitate correct analysis of data.
  • Querying databases and manages datasets, including uploading curated datasets to federal sites such as ImmPORT, ARK, Geo and others.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications
• Master’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, or equivalent field and one (1) year relevant experience OR Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or MIS and and three (3) years relevant experience.
• Ability to perform data analysis using appropriate software programs and/or program in R.
• Must possess excellent organizational and clear communication skills.
• Must be able to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment.
• Strong attention to detail and a high level of dependability.

Preferred Qualifications
• MPH or advanced degree (MS or Ph.D.) in Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Systems Biology, Biological Data Science, or Bioinformatics.
• Five (5) years or more experience as a consulting biostatistician or bioinformatician.
• Experience in human immune responses in health and disease is strongly preferred. Experience with clinical trials and research related to Alzheimer's disease and/or cancer is also strongly preferred.
• Exposure to analysis of high content proteomics and multi-omic data set analyses and integration.
• Experience helping write (or writing) data analysis components of NIH grant applications.
• Experience assembling data packages and uploading to a common federal data sharing site.
