Position Summary:

Responsible for assisting the Head Coach in the general leadership of the baseball team. This includes coaching, scheduling practices, travel, fundraising, and recruiting. The employee is expected to conduct all assigned tasks in a manner that supports program compliance with NCAA, MIAA, and Washburn policies, rules, and regulations.

Essential Functions:
Works in concert with and at the direction of the Head Baseball Coach to assist with coaching and building athletes' abilities and capabilities.
Provides individual and group coaching and guidance to assist the Head Coach with conducting regular practice sessions in and out of season as allowed by NCAA and MIAA rules; and helps coach during games. Determines and implements strategies necessary to motivate players to maximum levels of individual and team performance.
Scouts and recruits quality student athletes to the program. Sets up recruiting trips, schedules visits, establishes and maintains recruiting contacts adhering to NCAA, MIAA, and University policies.
Monitors individual student athletes' academic progress, tracking class schedules, grades, and academic performance.
Works with individual athletes, faculty and staff to address concerns and help athletes to maintain academic achievement that will allow them to remain NCAA eligible.
Assists the Head Coach with administrative duties. Schedules competitions with other teams, makes team travel arrangements, and develops travel schedules. According to schedules and University practice, makes travel arrangements for the Baseball team, allowing for timely arrival for practice and competition while minimizing time away from classes and costs to the University.
Works with Athletics personnel to ensure any scholarships awarded are in place for student athletes.
Tracks academic progress of all student-athletes in the Baseball program and establishes relationships that demonstrate interest in each individual and provide support for athletic and academic success. Establishes study programs and enforces requirements for class attendance and course make-up work.
Communicates and enforces rules and regulations regarding student conduct, appearance, and behavior to facilitate student success, ensure compliance with rules, and enhance the quality of the Baseball program at WU.
Assists the Head Coach in actively promoting public relations with the media and speaking engagements on behalf of the Athletics Department and Washburn University Baseball.
Attends conferences and workshops, researches publications, etc. to remain apprised of University, MIAA, and NCAA rules and regulations.
Performs additional job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree.
Experience coaching and/or participating in baseball.
Demonstrated effective interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record under Washburn's standards.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree.
Collegiate participation in baseball.

Exempt, Full-time, Mon-Fri, 8am-4:30pm
