NOW HIRING: Transit Systems Firmware & Software Integration Engineer

Vienna, VA (On-Site) | Full-Time

Build the Future of Transit Technology

STraffic America is looking for a Transit Systems Firmware & Software Integration Engineer to contribute to the development, deployment, and support of advanced Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) technologies used by leading public transportation agencies. This role combines embedded software engineering, device integration, troubleshooting, and field support to ensure reliable fare processing solutions across North America.

What You'll Do
  • Develop and enhance embedded and application software for AFC devices and supporting systems
  • Participate in the full software lifecycle, including architecture, coding, debugging, testing, and deployment
  • Investigate software, hardware, and communication issues to identify root causes and implement solutions
  • Support device implementation projects remotely and at customer sites
  • Analyze diagnostic logs, system performance metrics, and operational data
  • Execute validation and quality assurance testing to ensure system reliability and compliance
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, and customer support teams to optimize system performance
  • Maintain technical specifications, test plans, and operational documentation
What We're Looking ForRequired Qualifications
  • 4+ years of professional software development experience
  • Hands-on programming experience with C, C#, and Python
  • Proficiency with Visual Studio and Visual Studio Code
  • Experience working within Windows-based development environments
  • Familiarity with STM32 microcontrollers or similar embedded platforms
  • Strong analytical thinking and troubleshooting capabilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional team environments
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with embedded systems design and development
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP networking and serial communication protocols
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals and device connectivity
  • Conversational Korean language skills are a plus
  • Experience supporting field-deployed hardware and software solutions
Travel Requirements
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as project needs require
