What is a full time architectural drafter?

Full Time Architectural Drafters are professionals who use computer-aided design (CAD) software to create detailed drawings and plans for buildings and structures. They work closely with architects and engineers to translate concepts and specifications into technical drawings that guide construction. As full-time employees, they typically work regular business hours and may be employed by architecture firms, construction companies, or engineering consultancies. Their work ensures that designs are accurate, code-compliant, and ready for the building process.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a full time architectural drafter, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Full Time Architectural Drafter, you need proficiency in architectural drawing, a solid understanding of building codes, and an associate degree or certification in drafting or a related field. Familiarity with CAD software like AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM systems, as well as experience reading and interpreting blueprints, is typically required. Strong attention to detail, time management, and effective communication skills set exceptional drafters apart. These abilities ensure accurate project documentation, efficient collaboration with architects and engineers, and successful project delivery.

How does a full time architectural drafter typically collaborate with architects and engineers on a project?

As a Full Time Architectural Drafter, you’ll regularly work with architects and engineers to transform design concepts into detailed technical drawings. Collaboration often involves reviewing initial sketches, participating in project meetings, and making revisions based on feedback. Drafters are responsible for ensuring drawings comply with building codes and standards, and they act as a bridge between the design team and construction professionals. Good communication and a willingness to adapt to evolving project requirements are key to success in this collaborative role.

Architectural Drafter

Full-Time | In-Person | Scottsdale, AZ
Compensation: $50,000–$60,000 DOE

About JAQUE

JAQUE is a luxury design firm specializing in high-end residential, hospitality, retail, and commercial environments across Arizona and select markets nationwide, including California, Florida, and Montana.

Projects range from luxury residential renovations to hospitality, retail, and commercial interior environments with a strong focus on interior architecture, technical coordination, and project execution.

Our company operates in a highly collaborative, design-driven environment where creativity, organization, technical accuracy, adaptability, and execution all matter equally.

We are growing our technical architecture team and are seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented Architectural Drafter to support construction documentation, technical drafting, project coordination, and drawing production across multiple projects.

Role Overview

The Architectural Drafter supports the Architect of Record, project management team, and design team through construction documentation, drafting, redlines, revisions, technical coordination, and drawing organization.

This is a highly execution-focused role ideal for someone who enjoys technical production, organization, problem-solving, and helping keep projects moving efficiently.

The right candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable working within active project environments with multiple moving priorities.

This role is primarily focused on interior architecture and technical project documentation associated with interior project scopes.

Who You’ll Support

  • Architect of Record
  • Project Management Team
  • Design Team
  • Leadership
  • Consultants & Vendors

Core Responsibilities

Construction Documentation & Drafting

  • Produce and update construction documents and drawing sets
  • Implement architectural redlines and drawing revisions
  • Assist in preparing permit, pricing, and construction drawing sets
  • Maintain drawing organization, accuracy, and consistency
  • Support technical detailing, coordination, and documentation workflows

Technical Coordination & Project Support

  • Coordinate consultant drawings, backgrounds, and technical information
  • Assist with technical coordination and documentation updates
  • Help track revisions, updates, and project deliverables
  • Support permitting documentation and technical organization
  • Identify missing information, inconsistencies, or coordination gaps proactively

Visualization & Software Support

  • Support project modeling, visualization, and presentation workflows as needed
  • Work within Revit, AutoCAD, D5, Lumion, and related software platforms
  • Assist with maintaining organized digital project files and drawing systems

Organization & Workflow Support

  • Maintain organized project files, models, and documentation
  • Help maintain internal drafting and documentation standards
  • Support communication and coordination between teams

  • Client acquisition or business development
  • High-level project management operations

This role works collaboratively with the Architect of Record, project management, and design teams to support technical execution and project delivery.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate:

  • Is highly organized and technically detail-oriented
  • Enjoys drafting, technical coordination, and project organization
  • Communicates clearly and professionally
  • Is proactive and able to work independently without constant direction
  • Can manage multiple active projects and deadlines efficiently
  • Enjoys solving technical and organizational problems
  • Values accountability, follow-through, and consistency
  • Thrives within collaborative, fast-moving project environments

This Role May Not Be The Right Fit For Someone Who

  • Prefers purely conceptual or design-only work
  • Dislikes technical documentation or detailed coordination
  • Struggles with organization, follow-through, or shifting priorities
  • Prefers slow-moving or highly siloed environments
  • Requires constant oversight or direction

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in architectural drafting, construction documentation, or related technical roles preferred

Compensation & Structure

  • Full-time, in-person position
  • Competitive compensation based on experience

  • Collaborative and creative work environment
  • Long-term growth opportunity within an expanding team
