Job description

Are you excited about building security infrastructure that will protect the world's most critical cloud networks against next-generation threats? Do you want to work at the intersection of networking, distributed systems engineering and quantum physics?
We are looking for a Senior Software Development Engineer (SDE III) to join the Quantum Network Engineering team within AWS, where we are pioneering the deployment of Quantum Networking solutions for AWS Networks. In this role, you will design, build, and operate production-grade systems that integrate quantum-secured key exchange into AWS's global network infrastructure.
Key job responsibilities
As an SDE III on this team, you will:
• Architect and develop scalable software systems for symmetric key management, key lifecycle orchestration, and quantum networking device integration
• Drive the design and implementation of control-plane and data-plane components that enable quantum-secured communication between AWS data centers
• Lead the end-to-end development, deployment, and operation of Quantum Networks, from initial design through production rollout and ongoing operational management
• Define and implement monitoring, alerting, and automation frameworks to ensure the reliability and performance of Quantum Network infrastructure
• Partner closely with applied scientists, network engineers, and hardware teams to translate quantum networking research into production-ready solutions
• Contribute to pilot deployments and help scale quantum networking capabilities across AWS regions
• Raise the bar on operational excellence, security, and reliability for mission-critical networking infrastructure
• Mentor junior engineers and influence team-wide technical direction

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
- 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Experience in systems administration, network administration, AWS cloud app development, DevOps or site reliability engineering
- Knowledge of network design, protocols and troubleshooting
- • Experience with AWS security systems key management systems (KMS), HSMs, or cryptographic protocol implementation
- • Experience operating services at scale in a cloud environment (AWS preferred)

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
