What is a full stack engineer?

A Full Stack Engineer is a software developer who is skilled in both front-end and back-end development. They are capable of designing, building, and maintaining the entire technology stack of a web application, including user interfaces, servers, databases, and APIs. Full Stack Engineers often work with multiple programming languages and frameworks, allowing them to handle a wide variety of technical tasks. Their versatility makes them valuable team members in many tech projects.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a full stack engineer?

To thrive as a Full Stack Engineer, you need proficiency in both front-end and back-end programming languages (such as JavaScript, HTML/CSS, Python, or Java), along with a solid understanding of web application architecture and databases. Familiarity with frameworks like React, Angular, Node.js, and tools such as Git, Docker, and CI/CD systems, as well as relevant certifications, are often required. Strong problem-solving skills, effective communication, and adaptability help you collaborate across teams and manage complex projects. These skills are crucial for building, deploying, and maintaining robust, scalable applications that meet business needs.

How do full stack engineers typically collaborate with UX/UI designers and backend specialists on a project?

Full Stack Engineers frequently act as a bridge between UX/UI designers and backend specialists, ensuring seamless integration of front-end interfaces with server-side logic. They participate in cross-functional meetings, translate design requirements into functional features, and address technical feasibility from both ends. This collaboration often involves code reviews, regular communication to clarify requirements, and agile workflows to ensure that user experience and system performance are both prioritized throughout the development process.

What is the difference between Full Stack Engineer vs Front End Developer?

AspectFull Stack EngineerFront End Developer
Required SkillsProficiency in both front-end and back-end technologies, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, server-side languages, and databases.Specializes in client-side technologies like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and frameworks such as React or Angular.
Work EnvironmentWorks on both server and client-side development, often handling entire project stacks.Focuses primarily on creating and optimizing user interfaces and user experience.
Common UsageUsed in full project development, especially in startups and small teams requiring versatile developers.Primarily employed in UI/UX design, front-end frameworks, and client-side optimization.

While both roles require strong web development skills, a Full Stack Engineer handles both front-end and back-end tasks, providing a comprehensive approach to web development. A Front End Developer specializes in creating engaging and responsive user interfaces, focusing on the client side of applications.

Job Description:
Full-Stack Developer (.NET / C# / AWS)
EP+Co. | Creative Technology Team
EP+Co.'s Creative Tech team builds belief for brands we love by creating digital experiences powered by innovative ideas, insights, and technology. As a team of technologists, problem-solvers, and creative collaborators embedded within a leading brand agency, we are focused on delivering digital experiences that drive meaningful business results.
We are seeking a Full-Stack Developer with strong backend expertise in C#/.NET, databases, and AWS to join our Creative Technology team. While this is a full-stack role, we are specifically looking for someone whose strengths lie in building scalable backend systems, APIs, cloud infrastructure, and data-driven solutions. You should also be comfortable contributing to modern front-end experiences built with React.
This is not a traditional enterprise engineering role. We are looking for someone who thrives in fast-moving, idea-driven environments and enjoys collaborating closely with designers, strategists, and creatives to translate conceptual ideas into engaging, scalable digital solutions. You should be comfortable with ambiguity, rapid iteration, and evolving requirements.
As a member of our development team, you will help design, build, and maintain modern digital solutions with an emphasis on C#/.NET development, AWS cloud infrastructure, and database-driven applications. You will collaborate across disciplines while contributing creatively to how experiences are conceived, designed, and built. This role reports to the Director of Development.
If you are excited about blending technology with creativity, thrive in dynamic environments, and have a strong foundation in building secure, scalable, and engaging digital experiences, we would love to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities:
โ€ข Design, develop, and maintain scalable full-stack web applications, REST APIs, and backend services using C#, .NET (ASP.NET Core), and React.
โ€ข Build and maintain backend services with an emphasis on performance, reliability, and maintainability.
โ€ข Design and optimize relational and NoSQL databases (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB) with a focus on performance, reliability, and security.
โ€ข Develop and deploy cloud-native solutions on AWS, leveraging services including EC2, ECS/EKS, Lambda, API Gateway, RDS, DynamoDB, S3, CloudFront, and IAM.
โ€ข Build and support CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), containerization, and cloud-native tooling.
โ€ข Collaborate with designers, digital producers, QA, and fellow developers to translate creative concepts into high-quality digital solutions.
Who You Are:
โ€ข A collaborative software developer with strong backend development skills and an interest in building modern full-stack applications.
โ€ข Someone who enjoys solving technical challenges while balancing performance, scalability, security, and maintainability.
โ€ข Comfortable working across multiple technologies and contributing wherever the project requires.
โ€ข Adaptable, curious, and excited to work in a creative, fast-moving agency environment.
โ€ข A strong communicator who enjoys collaborating with both technical and non-technical teammates.
Required Skills & Experience:
โ€ข 3+ years of professional full-stack or backend development experience with modern technology stacks.
โ€ข Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
โ€ข Strong experience with C#/.NET, including ASP.NET Core, Web APIs, and background services.
โ€ข Experience designing, building, and consuming RESTful APIs.
โ€ข Experience designing and working with SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and/or NoSQL databases.
โ€ข Experience building applications on AWS using services such as EC2, ECS/EKS, Lambda, RDS, S3, CloudFront, IAM, Step Functions, EventBridge, SQS, and SNS.
โ€ข Experience with CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), and Git-based development workflows.
โ€ข Working knowledge of application security principles and authentication technologies, including OAuth2, JWT, OpenID Connect (OIDC), and SAML.
โ€ข Familiarity with modern JavaScript frameworks, preferably React.
Bonus Skills:
โ€ข Familiarity with Python and AI-driven platforms or development workflows.
โ€ข Familiarity with Contentful or other headless CMS platforms.
โ€ข Experience with MarTech, AdTech, or marketing automation platforms.
โ€ข Interest in emerging technologies such as AI, machine learning, and cloud-native automation tools.
If you are passionate about building modern applications with C#/.NET, AWS, and cloud technologies, and enjoy collaborating with creative teams to deliver innovative digital experiences, we would love to hear from you!$70,000.00 - $85,000.00
