JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to theย Pharmacyย Operations Manager, the Pharmacy Operations Supervisorย is responsible forย overseeing the overall performance, efficiency, and compliance ofย non-clinical aspects ofย pharmacy operations. This roleย supports the Pharmacy Operations Manager to ensureย thatย pharmacy operationsย are conductedย in accordance withย federal, provincial, and local laws, accrediting body standards, and professional practice guidelines. The Pharmacy Operationsย Supervisorย ensuresย work is appropriatelyย delegated, operational standards are met, and patient careย remainsย at the highest quality. The Supervisor collaborates across internal teams and external stakeholders to support continuous improvement, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence in a specialty pharmacy setting. ย The Pharmacy Supervisor willย be responsible forย overseeing all pharmacy staff who report directlyย or indirectlyย to this role, excluding pharmacists.ย 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Oversee andย monitorย pharmacy operations to ensure efficient,ย accurate, and safe prescription management, medication preparation, and delivery of infusion therapy services.ย 

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Ensure complianceย withย provincialย College of Pharmacists regulations, NAPRA standards, USP 797 guidelines, and all relevant provincial and federal legislation.ย 

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Maintain, review, andย optimizeย pharmacy workflows byย identifyingย process gaps, recommending improvements, and supporting operational excellence.ย 

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Collaborate with internal departments toย maintainย efficient workflow from prescription receipt to patient delivery.ย 

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Address and document operational issues, complaints, and medication errors;ย participateย in investigations and root cause analysis.ย 

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Accuratelyย maintainย all legally required records and documentation.ย 

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Leadย onboarding, orientation, and competency training for new team members, ensuring compliance with training requirements.ย 

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Ensure compliance with contract standards, clinical protocols, and audit requirements.ย 

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Participate in quality activities and continuous improvement initiatives in line with the company's Quality Management System.ย 

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Maintain confidentiality of patient and corporate information,ย in accordance withย PHIPA and company policies.ย 

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Coordinate daily staffing and workflow coverage, ensuring continuity of care andย timelyย prescription fulfillmentย 

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Manage planned and unplanned absences by proactively adjusting schedules and reallocating tasks toย maintainย service levels and compliance.ย 

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Serve as a liaison to pharmacy management, supporting communication and collaboration across teams.ย 

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Monitor team performance and adherence to pharmacy standards, providing coaching andย identifyingย opportunities for improvement.ย ย 

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Participates in hiring and performance management ofย pharmacy staff inย the pharmacy areas.ย 

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Reviewย billing,ย inventory, and other operationalย reportsย toย leverage data to make informed decisions.ย 

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Support operational initiatives, including inventory management, pharmacy audits, and implementation ofย newย programsย or technologies.ย 

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Participate in workforce planning and hiring activities, offering insights into team capacity, skill gaps, and future staffing needs.ย 

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Lead by example, fostering a culture of accountability, empathy, and excellence in patient-centered pharmaceutical care.ย 

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Participates in proactive Health & Safety activities while performing all duties. Is responsible to notify immediate Supervisor of any Health & Safety risks or concerns. Responsible for completing Accident Reports for all direct reports who injure themselves on the job, within 24 hours of the incidentย 

ย ย ย ย ย ย  Other duties as assigned.ย 

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Completion of aย Registered Technicianย Programย andย activelyย licensed inย good standingย inย theย province of practice.ย 
  • Minimum ofย 2ย years ofย Supervisory orย Leadย positionย preferably in a hospital or specialty pharmacy setting.ย 
  • Prior experience in supervising or coordinating pharmacy operations, with knowledge of regulatory compliance and audits.ย 
  • Knowledge of Kroll Dispensing software andย provincialย and privateย Drug Benefit programs.ย 
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.ย 
  • Ability to work independently and ensure effective delegation of tasks.ย 
  • Commitment to continual learning and professional development.ย 
  • Physical ability to perform pharmacy duties (standing, lifting, bending, etc.).ย 
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including rotating statutory holidays and weekends.ย
