Job description

Transportation Operations Manager

The Transportation Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day transportation activities, ensuring efficient and cost-effective movement of goods. This role focuses on leading a team, optimizing routing and scheduling, maintaining compliance with regulations, and partnering with customers and carriers to drive operational excellence. GEODIS currently operates under a 4 days in office hybrid schedule.

Your role on the team: 

  • Develops, coordinates and manages operational and administrative activities for the efficient operation of the Transportation Department, including implementing strategic plans and providing assistance on rate quotations and contracts
  • Analyzes reports and conducts statistical surveys in order evaluate performance and to secure information for recommending appropriate solutions to problems
  • Manages transportation personnel including, but not limited to, on-boarding, performance appraisals, coaching and mentoring
  • Interprets financial data and uses this to improve profitability and/or find accounting discrepancies
  • Achieves the highest levels of customer satisfaction by communicating frequently with customers and following up on customer concerns and requests
  • Interacts with all transportation supporting teams and drives resolution on outstanding issues with department leads

Continuous Improvement & Efficiency Optimization: 

  • Analyze existing transportation processes to identify and prioritize areas for improvement.
  • Utilize tools such as process mapping and root cause analysis to propose and implement solutions that enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, empowering team members to actively participate and contribute ideas.
  • Track, report, and communicate the status and outcomes of continuous improvement initiatives to stakeholders.

Automation & Technology Advancement: 

  • Lead the identification, scoping, and deployment of RPA and machine learning initiatives to streamline operations and eliminate manual tasks.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies to continuously assess new automation opportunities.
  • Manage the lifecycle of RPA/automation projects, from proposal through execution and evaluation.

Process Excellence Leadership: 

  • Chair the Process Excellence (PEX) Committee, driving the adoption of best practices and standardization across regions and business units.
  • Lead the migration and documentation of work instructions to digital platforms such as WhatFix.
  • Chair the bi-monthly IT Steering Committee meetings by organizing the meetings, note taking, collaboration with the IT teams and reporting out updates as needed.

Change Management: 

  • Develop and execute change management strategies to support process, technology, and organizational improvements.
  • Communicate changes effectively to all stakeholders, providing necessary training and support for adoption.
  • Address resistance and drive engagement to ensure successful transitions.

Internal Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement: 

  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with internal stakeholders to drive alignment and shared ownership of process improvement goals.
  • Ensure clear, consistent, and transparent communication across teams and departments.

What you need: (requirements)

  • Minimum 5 years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Travel 10% of the time may be required
  • Experience with budgeting and forecasting
  • PC literate to include Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to read and write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals 
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and co-workers 
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists 
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
