What are some common challenges faced by entry-level Front End Developers when joining a new team?

Entry-level Front End Developers often encounter challenges such as adapting to unfamiliar codebases, understanding team-specific development workflows, and mastering new tools or frameworks used by their organization. Collaboration with designers, back-end developers, and other stakeholders may also require effective communication and a willingness to ask questions. Overcoming these hurdles typically involves proactive learning, seeking feedback, and participating in code reviews, all of which help new developers integrate smoothly and grow their skills.

Is 40 too old to become a web developer?

Front End Developer roles are accessible at any age, and many successful developers start or transition into the field later in life. Skills such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and frameworks are learnable through online courses and practice, regardless of age, making career change feasible at 40 or older.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Entry-Level Front End Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Entry-Level Front End Developer, you need a solid understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and basic web design principles, often supported by a relevant degree or coding bootcamp experience. Familiarity with frameworks like React or Angular, version control systems like Git, and tools such as Chrome DevTools is typically expected. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication help you collaborate with team members and deliver user-friendly interfaces. These skills and qualities are crucial for building functional, visually appealing web applications that meet user needs and project requirements.

How to become a front-end developer with no experience?

To become a front-end developer with no experience, start by learning HTML, CSS, and JavaScript through online tutorials and courses. Build small projects to practice your skills, create a portfolio to showcase your work, and consider learning frameworks like React or Vue.js. Gaining familiarity with version control tools like Git and understanding basic design principles can also improve your prospects.

What is the difference between Front End Developer Entry vs Front End Developer Intermediate?

Front End Developer Entry roles are suitable for beginners with foundational skills, focusing on basic web development tasks. Intermediate roles require more experience and technical proficiency, handling complex projects and contributing more significantly to development teams.

What are Front End Developer Entry positions?

Entry-level Front End Developer positions are roles designed for individuals who are just starting their careers in web development. These developers focus on building and maintaining the visual and interactive elements of websites or applications using technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. They often work closely with designers and back-end developers to create user-friendly and responsive interfaces. Entry-level front end developers typically have foundational knowledge of web development, a portfolio of projects, and a willingness to learn new tools and frameworks. These roles provide valuable experience and growth opportunities in the tech industry.

Will AI replace frontend devs?

AI tools can automate certain tasks in front end development, such as code generation and testing, but they are unlikely to fully replace front end developers. Human skills like creativity, user experience design, and problem-solving remain essential for building effective and engaging websites. Front end developers will continue to adapt by integrating AI tools into their workflows to improve efficiency.

How to start a career as a front-end developer?

To start a career as a front-end developer, learn HTML, CSS, and JavaScript through online courses or tutorials, and build a portfolio of projects to demonstrate your skills. Gaining experience with frameworks like React or Angular and understanding version control tools such as Git can improve job prospects. Entry-level positions often require a strong foundation in web development and problem-solving skills.

Job description

Who You Are

You are a product-minded, forward-deployed, software application developer who bridges the gap between sophisticated data modeling and world-class user experiences. You believe that back-end data is only as valuable as the interface that makes it actionable. You are as comfortable architecting a high-performance Snowflake schema as you are crafting an intuitive React component. You thrive on being embedded with your users, translating the complex needs of battery engineers and operations into elegant software that serves as a "single source of truth."

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Embedded Product Development: Work directly with Engineering, Operations, Battery Teams, Finance, and Supply Chain teams to identify bottlenecks and build bespoke software solutions that accelerate our "bits-to-atoms" cycle.
  • Modern Front-End Engineering: Design and implement sophisticated, responsive user interfaces using React and modern state management libraries. Focus on creating high-density data visualizations that make complex battery performance data easy to interpret.
  • Application Data Layer Architecture: Design and evolve Snowflake schemas and data models specifically optimized for high-performance application interfaces. You will ensure the data layer supports both rapid transactional workflows and deep analytical exploration.
  • Data Orchestration: Utilize dbt and Airflow as your toolkit to clean, transform, and move data into your application-ready schemas, ensuring end-to-end data integrity.
  • Modern Observability: Use Datadog, Sumo Logic, and StatsD to monitor user interaction patterns and application health, ensuring high availability for business-critical workflows.
  • AI-Forward Features (RAG): Deploy Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) patterns to build "smart" tools that allow our engineering teams to query technical specs, experimental results, and financial data using natural language.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
  • Front-End Mastery: Expert proficiency in React, TypeScript, and modern CSS-in-JS or Tailwind. Experience with data visualization libraries (e.g. Plotly, or Bokeh) is highly preferred.
  • Application Backend: Expert proficiency in Python (FastAPI, Flask)
  • Application Data Modeling: Advanced experience with Snowflake and dbt. You should be able to demonstrate how you design schemas-including graph-based relationships-to solve specific application and user-workflow problems.
  • User-Centric Design: You should have a clear philosophy on how to make complex data-entry and data-analysis workflows intuitive.
  • Workflow Orchestration: Experience with Airflow or similar tools to manage application-specific data transformations.
  • Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), CI/CD and container orchestration (Kubernetes).
  • Practical experience building RAG architectures and integrating LLMs into production application workflows.
  • Native Mobile App Development: Experience deploying native iOS applications for internal business purposes
  • B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related engineering field.
  • 6+ years for MS, 8+ years for BS of professional software development experience, preferably in hardware product technology and/or manufacturing environments
  • A proven track record of building complex internal tools for Operations, Engineering, Battery Teams, Finance, or Supply Chain teams that emphasize user-centric design and high data density.
  • Strong bias for action and the ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
  • Move long distances (such as from building to building) and be stationary for extended periods of time
  • Operate a computer and other office equipment, such as a laptop, copier/printer, etc in a fixed location

The starting base pay for this role is between $152,000 and $192,000 at the time of posting. The actual base pay depends on many factors, such as education, experience, and skills. Base pay is only one part of Sila's competitive Total Rewards package that can include benefits, perks, equity, and bonuses.  The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
