Job Title: Tennis Maintenance Technician
Department: Tennis
Status: Part time, Hourly

Reports to: Head Tennis Professional

Nestled under live oaks draped with moss and surrounded by manicured hedges and wild palmettos, the Jekyll Island Tennis Center is a public tennis facility featuring 13 Har-tru clay courts. The Tennis Center also includes a pro shop with tennis racket stringing, racket rental, ball machine rental, and tennis equipment and apparel.
Jekyll Island is dedicated to maintaining the delicate balance between nature and humankind through conservation, education, and preservation. Surrounded by salt marshes, expansive oceanfront, and ancient maritime forests, it is situated within the chain of the Golden Isles and just a few miles from St. Simons Island, Sea Island and Brunswick. As a State Park, Jekyll Island is a coastal haven where nature and humans peacefully co-exist.
Summary:
The Tennis Maintenance Technician is a part-time position responsible for providing regular maintenance, cleaning, and setting up tennis courts and grounds. Responsibilities include rolling, brushing, sweeping courts, maintaining sprinklers and nets, completing maintenance schedules, and documenting court conditions. This opening is for weekends, Saturday and Sundays 7am - 11am, additional hours may be scheduled based on candidate's availability and operational needs.
Description:
  • Provide superior customer service, enforcing policies in a friendly, courteous manner.
  • Provide information about facilities, rules, and regulations.
  • Provide guests with additional information about Jekyll Island and guest attractions, maintaining knowledge of amenities and ongoing events.
  • Ensure that courts are clean and ready for play.
  • Performs court maintenance, including; rolling, brushing, and sweeping.
  • Ensures working condition of sprinklers and nets.
  • Keeps a daily log of court and environmental conditions.
  • Maintains neat, clean, and attractive grounds
  • Maintains daily, weekly, monthly schedule of maintenance, including; courts and surrounding areas, fencing and equipment.
  • Reports court and/or equipment issues to supervisor.
  • Empties all trash receptacles on courts.
  • Cleans and refills water containers
  • May cross train and performs Pro Shop operations including operating and reconciling cash register, dates play tickets, provides basic pro shop security, ensures proper PCI compliance as required by credit card regulations, and maintains proper cash controls.
  • Working hours are primarily early mornings, however, occasional flexible shifts may be scheduled to meet operational needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Must be 18 years of age or older and have reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including weekends. Ideally, hours will be Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, 7 am - 11:00am. Hours may fluctuate during tournaments; hours may be scheduled or adjusted based on candidate's availability and operational needs.
  • Criminal and MVR background check required.
  • Must have good customer service skills and ability to communicate effectively.
  • Must display good judgement, follow directions thoroughly and work with minimal supervision.
  • Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality is required.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
  • Exert up to 80 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
  • Between 25% and 50% of the typical work day will be spent standing, sitting, walking and repetitive motions of the wrists, hands and fingers.
  • Less than 25% of the typical work day will consist of stooping and/or crouching, kneeling, stooping, and reaching.
  • Ability to read and write, clearly communicate.
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work assigned.
  • Subject to work both inside and outside with extended periods of time in outside conditions, will be exposed to sun, heat & humidity, cold, and rain.
