Position Summary:

The Department of English at Florida Atlantic University invites applications for two Instructor positions to begin in August 2026. Positions are non-tenure earning, nine-month renewable appointments with opportunities for summer teaching appointments. Successful candidates will have an MA, MFA, or PhD in English, Rhetoric and Composition, Creative Writing or a related discipline at the time of appointment (August 8, 2026).

Instructors are expected to teach a 4/4 course load, primarily on the Boca Raton campus, and contribute to Florida Atlantic University's General Education Curriculum core offerings in Communication and Humanities. Teaching responsibilities may include first-year composition, literature courses, and other Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) offerings. Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for teaching English Department Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) courses on the Boca Raton campus, including first-year composition and interpretation of literature courses.
  • Responsible for compliance with all state, university, and program requirements.

Minimum Qualifications:

MA or PhD in English, Rhetoric & Composition, or related field, or MFA in Creative Writing at the time of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Applicants with at least two years of post-secondary teaching experience; demonstrated excellence in teaching writing and writing across the curriculum courses.

Transcripts:
The selected candidate for this position is required to submit an official transcript sent directly from the institution for the Provost's credential file prior to the first day of employment. Similarly, for degrees from outside the United States, the evaluation by an organization belonging to the National Association of Credential Evaluation (NACES), with an indication of the documents the evaluation was prepared from (official transcripts, diplomas, dissertation abstracts) is required for the Provost's credential file prior to the first day of employment. Transcripts must be issued to Florida Atlantic University, not to the individual applicant.
