Job Summary
Provide general patient care and basic patient education in support of University Health Services medical staff to ensure efficiency and productivity. Maintain a steady flow of the office and patient room activity.
This position has been identified by Federal Law (Jeanne Clery Act) as a Campus Security Authority (CSA), with significant student and campus responsibilities. CSA 's are obligated to report crimes reported to them which occurred on campus, in public areas bordering campus and in certain non-campus buildings owned or controlled (leased) by the University.
This is a 10-month, benefitted position.
Responsibilities
  • Provide education to patients on health-related topics
  • Administer oral, subcutaneous, and intramuscular medications as directed by the clinician
  • Initiate chart forms, obtain health histories, perform assessments, and measure vital signs
  • Prepare lab request forms and collect specimens including blood, perform EKGs, and administer breathing treatments as needed
  • Document care and procedures on medical records
  • Clean, sterilize instruments and sanitize exam areas in alignment with Infection Control Standards
  • Prepare patients for exams and assist clinicians with exams when needed
  • Phone in prescriptions to pharmacies as ordered by the clinician on prescription sheets
  • Assist in making referrals to outside facilities
  • Schedule appointments, inform patients of appointment preparation, and return phone calls received in the appointment office

Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Diploma from an approved/accredited medical assistant program

Other Required Qualifications
  • Completion of all courses of accredited CMA, RMA, or EMT program
  • Active Certified or Registered Medical Assistant or Emergency Medical Technician certification is required or must be able to attain certification within six (6) months of hire

  • One (1) or more years of related work experience
  • Electronic Medical Records (EMR) experience
