Chaplain
Preamble:
As a faith based organization Mennonite Home Communities ofOhio believes that whole person care addresses physical, emotional, andspiritual care of residents and clients served. The Chaplain participates inboth the care of individuals, as well as partnering with leadership to attendto the health and wellbeing of individual campuses and the organization.
Purpose of this Position:
The Chaplain provides spiritual, religious, and pastoralcounseling or guidance to residents, family members, and employees inaccordance with Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio mission, policies andprocedures, resident rights and responsibilities, and professional standards.
Job Functions:

In emergency or criticalsituations extraordinary duties may be required.
Requirements:
• Master of Divinity or equivalent degree from anaccredited institution (preferred).
• Minimum of two years experience in pastoralministry, including professional chaplaincy training (preferred).
• Current valid ordination or licensing of a majorfaith group.
• Certification by a national professional careorganization (preferred).
• Respect for and familiarity with a wide range ofreligious perspectives, including Christian traditions, world religions, andability to engage with people who claim no particular faith tradition. Respectfor diverse opinions, beliefs, and life experiences.
• Relate to all residents and staff as anon-anxious presence and without judgement.
• Positive service-oriented interpersonal andcommunication skills and conflict resolution skills required.
• Individual must be able to demonstrate knowledgeof the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess theability to assess information reflective of the resident's intellectual, physical,emotional and cognitive status. As well as interpreting the appropriateinformation needed to identify resources relative to the residents' needs andcollaborate with an inter-disciplinary team in developing a comprehensive plansof care.
• This position is classified "at risk" forpossible exposure to communicable diseases. Chaplain must be able and willingto follow MHCO protocols related to infection control.
• Letter of recommendation from denominationaloverseer (Conference Minister, Bishop, District Superintendent, RegionalMinister, denominational Chaplaincy director, etc.)
Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret professional texts related tospiritual and community care of elders, and other related topics. Ability toprepare sermons, reports, and business correspondence. Ability to effectivelypreach and respond to religious and theological questions from residents andemployees.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to resolve practical problems and deal with a varietyof concrete variables, as well as competing claims posed by resident, family,staff and organizational interests and responsibilities. Ability to interpret avariety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Duty 1: Developresident-oriented services to create as homelike and personal service aspossible.
Duty 2: Plan,develop, coordinate and conduct regular scheduled services for residents,family members, including chapelservices, prayer groups, prayer groups, scripture studies, and topical interestgroups.
Duty 3: Providecounseling and guidance to residents, family members, staff and others asnecessary.
Duty 4: Act asliaison between staff and resident's family/friends during periods of lifeadjustment, crisis, bereavement, and other life changes.
Duty 5: Plan andmaintain a visitation program for newly admitted residents.
Duty 6: Provide andparticipate in counseling, discussion groups, care plan meetings, and otherinterdisciplinary and resident/family meetings as needed.
Duty 7: Assistresidents that are at end-of-life to meet their needs, carry out their desires,and preserve their dignity through empathy, understanding, cooperation, andcreative problem-solving.
Duty 8: Maintain confidentialityof resident care information to assure that resident rights and protectedhealth information is protected.
Duty 9: Maintainexcellent working relationships with healthcare professionals, area clergy, andlocal service agencies.
Duty 10: Assess thespiritual care needs within MHCO facilities and assume responsibility fordirecting and coordinating religious services, programs and activities;including oversight of volunteer program leaders
Duty 11: From time to time represent MHCOin local community/civic projects.
Duty 12: Directsupervisory responsibilities for the part-time Fellowship Chaplain position,including, but not limited to oversight of visitation schedule, schedulingneeded assistance for various programs, processing payroll, and any HR tasksthat may arise.
