Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cardiac PCU position requiring 2 years of strong cardiac or PCU experience and a WA or compact RN license.

Details
  • Work in the Cardiovascular PCU of a 388-bed, Level 3 Trauma Center hospital
  • 34-bed acuity adaptable unit caring for cardiac and vascular patients
  • Patient population includes MI, post-operative open-heart surgery (including TAVR and fem-pop bypass), cardiac arrhythmias, Tikosyn therapy, pacemakers, and ICDs
  • Also cares for post-cardiac catheterization patients, carotid and thoracotomy patients transitioning from ICU, and vascular-related amputations
  • Cardiac telemetry duties include chest pain evaluation, stress testing, heart catheterization, arrhythmia management, percutaneous interventions, and pacemaker upgrades
  • Also supports medical overflow patients
  • Patient ratio of 1:3-4
  • Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and Philips portable and bedside monitors
  • 12-hour night shifts from 1900-0730 with every other weekend rotation
  • No on-call requirements, though extra shifts are available for pick-up
  • Travelers float first, primarily to MedSurg units and ICU for overflow coverage
Requirements
  • Active RN license (WA or Compact) currently in hand
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • Minimum 2 years of strong cardiac or PCU experience required
  • Ability to care for cardiovascular patients, identify and interpret rhythms, and manage epidurals and chest tubes
  • Experience with cardiac drip management including nitro, heparin, Amiodarone, Cardizem, dopamine (fixed rate), and dobutamine (fixed rate)
Additional Information
  • Care team support includes 2-4 CNAs per shift, a free-floating charge nurse, a flex nurse for admissions/discharges (0700-1930), 24/7 hospitalist and RT coverage, 24/7 on-call cardiologist, and 2 tele techs per shift
  • Orientation includes NEO plus 2 12-hour shifts of unit orientation
  • Holiday coverage expected for 2 of 3 designated holidays
  • RTO requests must be approved through the manager
  • Scheduling is set in 6-week cycles and provided 2 weeks in advance; block scheduling can be accommodated but a set schedule is not guaranteed
  • Scrubs must be a solid, professional color with no graphics, logos, or designs
  • Strong emphasis on behavioral fit, including a calm, respectful, and kind demeanor, teamwork, and effective communication
