Job description

The company built on breakthroughs.
Join us.

Corning is one of the world’s leading innovators in glass, ceramic, and materials science. From the depths of the ocean to the farthest reaches of space, our technologies push the boundaries of what’s possible.

How do we do this? With our people. They break through limitations and expectations– not once in a career, but every day. They help move our company, and the world, forward.

At Corning, there are endless possibilities for making an impact. You can help connect the unconnected, drive the future of automobiles, transform at-home entertainment, and ensure the delivery of lifesaving medicines. And so much more.

Come break through with us.

Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry. This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

Corning is seeking a Sales Engineer to support strategic engagement with NVIDIA, with a primary focus on Co‑Packaged Optics (CPO) and advanced data‑center connectivity solutions. This role will partner closely with Corning’s PCS and Data Center Business Unit (DCBU) teams and work directly with NVIDIA engineering and architecture organizations to enable system‑level design, validation, and large‑scale deployment of optical connectivity solutions.

Based in Bay Area, the Sales Engineer plays a highly customer‑facing role and is critical to accelerating design wins, supporting complex CPO programs, and shaping next‑generation PCS and data‑center interconnect solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as Corning’s primary field technical interface to NVIDIA engineering and architecture teams in Santa Clara, CA
  • Lead and support system‑level architecture discussions spanning hardware platforms, CPO implementations, optical connectivity, shuffle boxes, structured cabling, and high‑density interconnect solutions

CPO & PCS Technical Leadership

  • Support NVIDIA programs involving Co‑Packaged Optics, including connectivity considerations beyond the package and into the system and rack level
  • Contribute to reference architectures, cabling guides, and application documentation in close collaboration with PCS product management and engineering teams
  • Lead technical evaluations, design‑in activities, and validation efforts from early development through production ramp
  • Support demonstrations, prototyping iterations, troubleshooting, and corrective actions across development and deployment phases

Internal Alignment & Execution

  • Provide early visibility into customer requirements, technical risks, and scaling considerations to support internal readiness for ramp‑up and deployment at scale
  • Provide on‑site support (“be the eyes and ears”) for proof of concepts, samples, and troubleshooting activities in the pre‑sale and post‑sale processes
Required Education
  • Bachelor of Science – Engineering, Physics, or Applied Science
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in optical fibers and connectivity
  • Familiarity and experience with multi‑layer physical layer data center network topologies like spine and leaf
  • Familiarity with Scale Out, Scale Up, and Scale Across AI network architectures
  • Experience using a CRM, especially Salesforce
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneDrive, and SharePoint
Desired Experiences
  • Master's Degree preferred. PhD a plus
  • Black belt (6 Sigma or Innovation) training
  • Project and/or manufacturing financial management knowledge
  • Knowledge of Innovation Stage‑gate processes

This position does not support immigration sponsorship.

The range for this position is $96,254.00‑$132,349.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job‑related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
