What does a from home Java C2C job involve?

A 'From Home Java C2C' job refers to a remote position where a Java developer works on a contract basis under a 'Corp-to-Corp' (C2C) arrangement. In this setup, the developer is typically engaged through their own corporation or a third-party agency, rather than as a direct employee. The job involves working from home to design, develop, and maintain Java applications for clients. C2C contracts are common in the IT industry, offering flexibility but also requiring the contractor to manage their own taxes and benefits.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote Java C2C developer?

To thrive as a Remote Java C2C Developer, you need strong proficiency in Java programming, experience with frameworks like Spring or Hibernate, and a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with version control systems (such as Git), cloud platforms, and sometimes relevant certifications like Oracle Certified Professional Java Programmer are typically required. Excellent communication, self-motivation, and time management skills help you excel when working independently and collaborating remotely with teams. These skills ensure you deliver robust software solutions efficiently while adapting to client needs in a remote, contract-based environment.

What are some common challenges faced by remote Java developers working on a C2C basis, and how can they be effectively managed?

Remote Java developers on a C2C contract often encounter challenges such as coordinating across different time zones, maintaining clear communication with multiple clients, and managing project deliverables independently. To overcome these, it's important to establish regular check-ins, use collaborative tools for code and project management, and set clear expectations regarding deadlines and deliverables with clients. Being proactive in communication and documentation can significantly enhance workflow efficiency and client satisfaction in a remote C2C environment.

Job description

RELOCATION ASSISTANCE: Relocation assistance may be availableCLEARANCE REQUIRED FOR START: YesCLEARANCE TYPE: Top SecretTRAVEL: Yes, 10% of the TimeDescriptionAt Northrop Grumman, our employees have incredible opportunities to work on revolutionary systems that impact people's lives around the world today, and for generations to come. Our pioneering and inventive spirit has enabled us to be at the forefront of many technological advancements in our nation's history - from the first flight across the Atlantic Ocean, to stealth bombers, to landing on the moon. We look for people who have bold new ideas, courage and a pioneering spirit to join forces to invent the future, and have fun along the way. Our culture thrives on intellectual curiosity, cognitive diversity and bringing your whole self to work - and we have an insatiable drive to do what others think is impossible. Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.

About our local organization: You'll be joining our Aurora Software and Electronics/Payloads Department which has ~200 Software Engineers, DevOps Engineers, Systems Administrators, Database Administrators, Network Engineers, and Engineering Leaders from the entry-level to the most senior chief engineers and architects to Product Owners and Scrum Masters. This engineering organization supports numerous programs across Divisions and Business Units of the NG Space Sector business. We have opportunities for career advancement into higher level technical roles or leadership positions over one's career with us.

About the program: You'll be joining an on-contract program that is supporting a critical national security mission that is both in development and operations. The program team is headquartered in Aurora, CO yet has some distributed team members located at several other NG sites across the US as well as at collaborating partner companies with an overall team size totaling roughly 35 people. Some of the program's baseline and environments are unclassified allowing some work outside of our secure facilities yet still on-site and in-person. The overall team is composed of software developers organized into agile scrum teams with Product Owners and Scrum Masters. Staff in Aurora primarily work in two large rooms with cubicle-like individual spaces (rather than in dedicated offices). The program's culture is agile, fast-paced, high performing, proactive, collaborative, and welcoming of new ideas, technologies, and tools that could benefit the mission or help the team be more productive or produce a higher quality product for the mission. The program is currently experimenting with every-other Friday being a work-from-home day if one's work doesn't require classified systems access at that moment.

About the job: This requisition is sourcing a Product Owner that has a prior technical background in Java software development yet is now interested in a path via the Product Owner role to further senior technical leadership roles and potentially to project or program management. After starting with at least a Top Secret Clearance, the program will request the SCI then a program Special Access (SAP) for you which will then enable a full program briefing and full access to the mission and customers ideally within about 6 months of starting. If you thrive in this kind of environment, then please apply so we can consider you.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Principal (level 3): Bachelor's degree in Science with 5+ years of software development experience; 3+ years with a Master's; or 9+ years of experience in lieu of a degree

  • Sr. Principal (level 4): Bachelor's degree in Science with 8+ years of software development experience; 5+ years with a Master's; or 12+ years of experience in lieu of a degree

  • Must have active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility at time of application. Requiring TS to start.

  • Ability to pass a Counterintelligence Polygraph (CI-Poly) (but not required to start)

  • At least 3 years of Java Software Development experience

  • At least 1 year of Agile Software Team leadership experience

  • Experienced using Jira (as a developer, and in a team leadership capacity)

  • Experience working proposals and writing basis-of-estimates (BOEs) for software efforts

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or similar

  • Prior experience as a Product Owner

  • Prior experience working within an Agile Release Train (larger software development effort composed of multiple scrum teams working towards common goals over Program Increments)

  • Skill making Data-Driven decisions

  • Ability to motivate, lead, and drive work to successful completion on time

  • Desire to work as a technical leader on a fast-paced team

  • Ability to effectively communicate and present to program management and customers
