Job description

POSITION SUMMARY
This is a non-exempt inspection position of moderate difficulty responsible for performing onsite housing inspections for the Housing Choice Voucher program in a manner that provides responsive customer service and complies with program requirements. Duties include scheduling appointments, performing inspections, contact with owners and clients, organizing large volumes of data, tracking different types of information and maintaining data on the computer system. This position involves an inspection caseload of 700-900 units annually.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent. Required knowledge, skills and abilities for this position would normally be gained through the equivalent of two (2) years at an accredited college or university in a related field and/or one (1) year experience and/or training in Building/Housing Inspection.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Knowledge of basic residential building and/or maintenance terms and applications of those terms.
  • Ability to organize and manage large volumes of information in various formats, skill in the use of a personal computer, communicate clearly both verbally and in writing, interact with owners and clients in a courteous professional manner, physical ability to visually inspect building structures, sometimes involving outside work in inclement weather, climbing, working in damp or dirty environments.
  • Ability to conduct all assigned onsite inspections according to requirements of HUD Housing Quality Standards (HQS) and in accordance to the agency's policies and procedures; assigned inspections to include initial inspections, annual inspections, complaint inspections and follow-up inspections.
  • Ability to conduct inspections in a manner that properly applies SLHA and HUD HQS requirements 95% of the time; schedules daily inspection appointments by reviewing monthly inspection notifications and prioritizing inspections according to due dates, organizing routes efficiently according to location and provide HQS Supervisor with daily routing sheets.
  • Ability to complete all inspection reports and notifies parties of results of inspection noting HQS deficiencies within twenty-four (24) business hours of inspection; accurately enters inspection data in the SLHA computer system in a manner that produces an error rate of 2% or less.
  • Must have and maintain a current driver's license and be insurable under the Authority's automobile insurance.
