Job description

Company Description Denver Equestrians Riding School offers a welcoming, family-friendly environment where riders of all ages and experience levels can learn and grow. The school provides a beautiful, well-maintained facility and well-trained horses for students who may not otherwise have access to riding opportunities. Instruction is offered in both English and Western disciplines, including Jumping, Dressage, Western Pleasure, and foundational horsemanship skills such as safety, grooming, tack, and horse care. Youth Riding Clubs and Horse Camps give younger riders a fun, structured way to develop their skills. Horses are cared for as valued members of the community, with an emphasis on their health, happiness, and wellbeing.

Role Description The Horseback Riding Instructor is a part-time, on-site role based in Littleton, CO, responsible for teaching safe, high-quality riding lessons to students of varying ages and skill levels. Day-to-day tasks include planning and conducting individual and group lessons in English and/or Western disciplines, focusing on correct riding technique, horsemanship, and barn safety. The instructor will help match riders with appropriate school horses, oversee grooming and tack usage, and reinforce proper care and handling of horses before and after lessons. Additional responsibilities may include assisting with youth riding clubs and camps, supporting stable operations (such as organizing equipment and maintaining a tidy teaching environment), and communicating lesson progress and scheduling updates to students and guardians. The role requires consistent on-site presence during assigned lesson times, evenings and weekends as needed.

Qualifications

  • Candidates should possess strong Riding Instruction and Equestrian skills, with experience teaching beginner through intermediate riders in English disciplines Hunters, Jumpers, Equitation and Dressage.
  • Candidates should possess practical Horse Care skills, including grooming, tack use and fit, basic health observation, and safe handling on the ground.
  • Candidates should possess Horse Training skills appropriate for schooling lesson horses, reinforcing good behavior, and maintaining safe, responsive mounts for students.
  • Candidates should possess Stable Management skills, such as organizing equipment, supporting barn safety protocols, and contributing to a clean, orderly facility.
  • Additional beneficial qualifications include prior work in a riding school or lesson barn, experience leading youth programs or camps, strong communication and interpersonal skills, reliability in scheduling, and current first aid/CPR certification.
  • A background in disciplines such as English Equitation, Hunters, Jumping, and/or Dressage, and relevant certifications (e.g., from recognized equestrian or instructor organizations) are preferred.
