Essential Job Functions
  • Physically and psychologically able to actively and safely supervise a group of adolescent residents with emotional, mental and behavioral challenges.
  • Provide leadership to and effectively manage the job performance of the Youth Care Workers.
  • Work cooperatively and effectively with other members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Implement the policies and practices of SFSV, DPW, DHS and HIPAA as they pertain to the effective operation of residential group homes.
  • Ability to provide 24 hour on-call coverage to the assigned group home and available to work flexible schedule covering day, evening and overnight shifts.
  • Ability to safely operate a 10-passenger vehicle.
  • Maintain insurability for driving with the Archdiocesan Insurance Office.

Other Job Functions
General:
  • Maintain regular electronic communication through email, texting, phone and fax. Check regularly and respond promptly.
  • Act as an appropriate role model for staff and residents in actions, words and dress.
  • Participate actively as a member of the residential management team to develop and implement best practices. Also, provide agency-wide leadership for the residential program.
  • Attend and actively participate in all required annual staff training, as well as trainings for professional growth.

Administrative:
  • Responsible in assisting with personnel management from hiring through termination including documenting all supervisory and corrective action issues.
  • Accountable for assigned group home finances.
  • Develop staff skills and assure that all group home documentation is completed accurately and submitted in a timely manner according to agency guidelines.
  • Manage residents' medical and medication needs according to agency protocol.
  • Maintain staff work schedules providing for coverage within required ratios at all times; manage group home overtime staffing caps and monitor and enforce time clock compliance procedures.
  • Develop and implement structured group home programs to meet resident needs.
  • Plan, organize and implement a variety of safe leisure time recreational/educational activities and a daily routine to develop age appropriate social and life skills including the tasks of daily living.
  • Prepare, attend and actively engage in scheduled meetings and administrative supervision.
  • Ensure program vehicles' registration, inspections and maintenance are maintained and reported. Monthly van safety checks must be completed and documented on the Van Safety form.

Supervisory:
  • Prepare for, conduct and document regular staff supervision in compliance with all agency policies and procedures.
  • Assure staff members are engaged with residents to assist them in attaining their treatment goals.
  • Provide staff with three-month, six-month and annual evaluations focused on achieving attainable, measurable goals that foster professional development, promote strengths and remediate weaknesses.
  • Develop cohesive group home teams and lead group home team meetings.
  • Assure group home staff are knowledgeable about and implement resident safety/crisis protocols/notifications/documentation for Alerts, restrictive procedures, AWOLs, plans of safety and school suspensions.
  • Assure that all assigned staff use vacation and holiday hours following agency policies and procedures.
  • Maintain health and regulatory standards to assure that group homes are clean and safe and that maintenance needs are addressed.
  • Ensure that all fire safety standards are met and the group homes comply with regulations. Hold monthly fire drills and document on the Monthly Fire Drill Log. Also, perform weekly group home safety checks and document these checks on the Monthly Building Safety Checklist form.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Bachelor's degree in an area of Human Services and one year of experience working with children. Or Associates degree or 60 college credits and three years of experience working with children.
  • One year of verifiable supervisory/management experience in human services preferred.
  • Verifiable skills in planning, organization, management, administration and supervision.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.
  • Basic competence in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Effective oral and written communications skills in English.
  • Valid PA [or state of residence] driver's license and a good driving record [must be able to get approval to drive from the Archdiocesan Insurance Office].
  • Valid Child Abuse, Criminal History and FBI clearances that meet all regulatory requirements.

Work Environment
  • This job involves regular work with adolescent males or females who can be verbally and physically assaultive.
  • Ability to safely perform occasional physical escorts and restraints of adolescent males or females according to agency provided training, policies and procedures.
  • This work is performed primarily indoors and occasionally outdoors and involves frequent walking, standing and sitting.
  • This work requires frequently lifting up to 10 pounds and occasionally lifting/moving up to 50 pounds and lifting/moving up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to type at a computer terminal is required.
  • This job involves occasional driving of a 10-passenger vehicle and occasional use of your personal vehicle.
