Job description

LaRiviere, Inc is looking for a skilled Motor Grader Operator/Foreman to join our team. As part of the LaRiviere team, you'll have the opportunity to work on diverse and challenging projects while being rewarded with competitive pay and comprehensive benefits.
Position Overview:
The Finish Motor Grader Operator will be responsible for operating the motor grader and overseeing all equipment required to complete job tasks efficiently and safely. This role requires experience in highway/site construction and a strong understanding of construction-grade specifications, quality control, and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Equipment Operation: Operate motor grader equipment to grade and shape surfaces, including subgrades, shoulders, slopes, and base course materials, to fine-grade specifications.
  • Pre-Start & Daily Maintenance: Perform regular pre-start checks and routine maintenance on equipment, including lubrication, tire pressure checks, and engine gauge monitoring. Keep equipment clean and well-maintained.
  • Material Handling: Operate equipment to mix materials, scrap, level dirt, shape subgrades, and dress shoulders and slopes.
  • Precision Grading: Use automatic grade control systems and manual grading techniques to achieve precise grade specifications and ensure the quality of work.
  • Production & Scheduling: Maintain consistent production levels, schedule work tasks, and ensure that timelines and quantity requirement are met.
  • Quality Control: Monitor and ensure work is completed to the project specifications and quality standards. Address any issues or rework requirements as they arise.
  • Safety Compliance: Enforce safety procedures on-site, ensuring that the crew adheres to safety standards and operates within company guidelines.
  • Problem Solving: Utilize strong problem-solving skills to identify and resolve issues that may arise during project execution.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor, depending on project needs. Ability to operate other construction related heavy equipment a bonus, i.e. (Excavator, Skid steer, Bulldozer, Backhoe, Front end loader, articulating haul truck, etc.).

Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Experience: A minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Motor Grader Operator in highway, roads, and residential development projects.
  • Skills:
    • Proficient in motor grader operations and maintenance.
    • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and blueprints.
    • Familiar with grading techniques, subgrade shaping, and fine grading for horizontal surfaces.
    • Experience with automatic grade control systems.
    • Ability to make decisions based on verifiable standards.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with supervisors, crew members, and the project manager.
  • Driver's License: Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (CDL a plus).
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to stand, bend, crouch, and work in a variety of positions for extended periods.
    • Capable of lifting more than 20 pounds and operating heavy equipment safely.
    • Frequently walking on uneven surfaces in various weather conditions.
    • Ability to work in physically demanding environments for extended periods.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to work overtime hours and flexible schedules as needed to meet project deadlines.

Work Environment:
  • Outdoor Work: The position requires working outdoors in varying weather conditions (hot, humid, rainy, etc.).
  • Noise & Dust Exposure: The work environment involves exposure to high noise levels, grease, dust, and other substances commonly found on construction sites.
  • Heavy Equipment: Regular exposure to heavy machinery and moving equipment on-site.
  • Hazardous Conditions: Occasional exposure to common construction substances such as gasoline, diesel fuel, and form oil.
