JOB SUMMARYHighly responsible work receiving and disseminating all police, fire rescue, and medical calls for service via the E911 System and 800 MHz radio system. This is a most critical position due to the fact that the majority of the calls for help are initially received by the dispatcher. Reports to the Communications Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY)- Answers all telephone lines (E911 and administrative). Receives complaints, calls for help, reports of deaths, injuries, suicide attempts, robberies, fires, accidents, burglaries, alarms, missing persons, stolen vehicles, etc. Dispatches the proper unit(s) to respond (ambulance, fire apparatus, wrecker, etc.)
- Determines the nature and location of the emergency; determine priorities, and dispatch police, fire ambulance or other emergency units as necessary and in accordance with established procedures.
- Receives and records all data reported for officer response. Analyzes the information for input into the Computer-Aided Dispatch System.
- Relays all police information as well as instruction from command-level officers to those at level of execution. Maintains contact with all units on assignment. Monitors officer status at all times- location and availability.
- Operates radio console for Police Department and Fire Rescue, CAD (Computer-Aided Dispatch), Criminal Justice Computer, E911 PSAP system, administrative telephones, and City computer system (to include proper City internet access).
- Monitors several public safety radio frequencies. Monitors direct emergency alarms, answer non-emergency calls for assistance.
- Receives requests for information regarding vehicle registration, driving records and warrants, and provides pertinent data.
- Maintains numerous records and logs including keeping a shift activity pass-on.
- Enters, updates, and retrieves information from a variety of computer systems.
- Performs "clerical" duties (such as filing, typing, and answering phones) and computer related work as required.

Ability to maintain poise, to think clearly, to remain calm, and to respond to emergencies under stressful conditions. Ability to speak with a clear, well-modulated voice and to use proper grammar. Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers and citizens. Ability to learn about City geography.
Must be knowledgeable of computer and related equipment. Candidates will also complete a "Criticall" evaluation that evaluates skills including but not limited to reading comprehension, memory recall, typing and map reading.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCEHigh school diploma or equivalent required. Clerical experience can be useful but not required. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTSPossession of a valid Florida Driver's license with acceptable driving record.
Required to pass 232-hour state-required training course and obtain the State 911 PST Certification within one year of employment. Must have telephone service in home residence. Must successfully complete fingerprinting and background check, polygraph/CVSA and psychological tests. Work may involve rotating shift; includes weekends, holidays and emergency events with the possibility of extended hours and being sequestered to a mandated safe/secure facility. Must reside within 50-mile radius of the City of Titusville.
This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City's current Drugs and Alcohol policy.During occasions of local emergencies, the Incident Commander and Dept. Head may require this position to report to perform emergency tasks, which may result in extended work hours and periods of time away from family members.
