Job description

Position Summary

NGL Transportation, Inc. is seeking experienced and safety-focused Class A CDL Drayage Truck Drivers to join our growing operations team. Based out of Gardena, California, our drivers play a critical role in moving freight between ports, rail yards, warehouses, and distribution centers throughout the Los Angeles and Southern California region.

The ideal candidate is a professional, reliable driver with a strong commitment to safety, compliance, and customer service. This role operates primarily in a local drayage environment with port and intermodal freight.


Key Responsibilities

Operate a Class A tractor-trailer to transport containerized freight between ports (LA/Long Beach), rail yards, warehouses, and customer distribution centers.

Complete thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections in compliance with FMCSA and California DMV regulations, and document findings on the DVIR.

Pick up and deliver import/export containers as dispatched, adhering to appointment times, port schedules, and customer delivery windows.

Accurately complete all required shipping documents including Bills of Lading, delivery receipts, interchange forms, and daily manifests — including recording all breaks as required.

Communicate proactively with dispatch regarding delays, re-spots, schedule changes, or any issues encountered during the shift.

Comply with all Hours of Service (HOS) regulations; maintain accurate ELD records or paper logs when required by California regulations.

Perform trailer re-spots at customer facilities when requested by warehouse personnel, following company SOP and immediately notifying dispatch.

Operate within California's 55 mph CMV speed limit and all applicable CA Vehicle Code regulations at all times.

Maintain a clean, professional appearance and represent NGL Transportation with courtesy and professionalism at all customer locations.

Report all accidents, incidents, or near-misses to dispatch and the Safety Department immediately, following company accident reporting procedures.

Ensure cargo is properly secured in compliance with FMCSA cargo securement standards before every departure.

Maintain knowledge of and comply with CARB Truck & Bus Regulations and all applicable environmental compliance requirements.


Minimum Qualifications

Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

TWIC Card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential)

Minimum 2 years of verifiable Class A driving experience

Clean MVR — no more than 2 moving violations in 3 years

No DUIs, reckless driving, or major violations

Must pass DOT pre-employment drug & alcohol screening

Must pass DOT physical and maintain valid Medical Certificate

Familiarity with port drayage operations (LA/LB preferred)

Experience with chassis inspection and container handling

Strong knowledge of HOS regulations and ELD compliance

Ability to navigate using GPS and electronic dispatch systems

Authorized to work in the United States

Must be at least 21 years of age


Preferred Qualifications

HazMat endorsement on CDL

Experience with Samsara ELD platform

Bilingual — English and Korean or Spanish

Familiarity with CARB compliance requirements

Knowledge of CA port terminal systems (e.g., PortCheck, eModal)

Experience operating in congested urban port environments

Prior drayage experience at Ports of LA or Long Beach


Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to perform the following physical tasks on a regular basis:


Sit and operate a commercial vehicle for extended periods

Climb in and out of the cab repeatedly throughout the shift

Lift and carry up to 10 lbs (e.g., chains, binders, equipment)

Perform hands-on pre/post-trip inspection of entire vehicle

Work in varying weather conditions — heat, cold, rain

Bend, kneel, and crouch during vehicle inspection and coupling

Maintain alertness and focus during long driving periods

Work early morning, evening, or weekend shifts as required


Conduct & Compliance Standards

All NGL Transportation drivers are expected to uphold the following standards as a condition of employment:


Treat all company staff, dispatch, warehouse personnel, and customers with professionalism and respect at all times.

Communicate with dispatch in a professional manner — verbal abuse, yelling, or threatening behavior toward any employee is grounds for immediate termination.

Follow all company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), including re-spot procedures, manifest requirements, and accident reporting protocols.

Never refuse a reasonable request from a customer's warehouse team — contact dispatch immediately if any concern arises.

Record all breaks, including the required 30-minute meal break, on the daily manifest without exception.

Report any citation, accident, or license suspension to NGL Transportation immediately — no exceptions.
