Financial Restructuring Associate Attorney

Direct Counsel is seeking a Financial Restructuring Associate Attorney to join a prestigious Am Law firm in Los Angeles or San Francisco, California.

This is an exceptional opportunity for an attorney with 1-5 years of restructuring and bankruptcy experience to join a nationally recognized Financial Restructuring practice. The team represents debtors, creditors, boards of directors, private equity sponsors, lenders, investors, and other key stakeholders in sophisticated Chapter 11 cases, out-of-court restructurings, distressed acquisitions, and bankruptcy-related litigation.

Responsibilities
  • Represent clients in complex Chapter 11 reorganizations, out-of-court restructurings, and insolvency proceedings.

  • Advise debtors, secured and unsecured creditors, lenders, sponsors, boards, committees, and other stakeholders in restructuring matters.

  • Assist with distressed asset acquisitions, including Section 363 sales and bankruptcy-related transactions.

  • Draft and negotiate restructuring agreements, bankruptcy pleadings, motions, and related transaction documents.

  • Handle bankruptcy-related litigation, contested matters, and adversary proceedings.

  • Conduct legal research involving bankruptcy, commercial, and securities law issues.

  • Work directly with clients on restructuring strategies designed to maximize enterprise value.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on sophisticated financial restructuring matters.

Qualifications
  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.

  • Active membership in the California Bar, or eligibility and intent to obtain admission promptly.

  • 1-5 years of experience in bankruptcy, restructuring, insolvency, or related commercial matters.

  • Experience with complex Chapter 11 reorganizations or other sophisticated restructuring transactions is preferred.

  • Familiarity with bankruptcy law, commercial law, and related securities law issues.

  • Excellent legal research, analytical, drafting, and writing skills.

  • Outstanding academic credentials and strong references.

  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills with the ability to manage complex matters in a fast-paced environment.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Salary: $225,000-$435,000, commensurate with class year, experience, and qualifications.
