Job description

Job Opportunity: Clinical and Metabolic Geneticist

Our organization is currently seeking a full-time Clinical and Metabolic Geneticist who is Board Certified or Board Eligible. This role includes a faculty position at the School of Medicine, aligned with your training and experience.

This is a fantastic chance for both newly trained and seasoned clinicians/educators in metabolic genetics, as well as those with a broader interest in clinical genetics and genomics. Key responsibilities will encompass:

  • Newborn screening
  • Patient care
  • Inpatient consultations
  • Outpatient genetic clinics
  • Collaboration in multidisciplinary team environments
  • Teaching medical students, pediatric and neurology residents, and genetic counseling students
  • Engaging in research activities

Protected time for research is available, and we encourage a focus on research initiatives. There are numerous opportunities for both intramural and extramural collaboration, as well as program development. The clinical genetics practice is diverse and extensive, providing rich experiences in various areas such as neurogenetics, cardiogenetics, cancer genetics, dysmorphology, congenital anomalies, and other specialized genetics fields. The team consists of two full-time and two part-time geneticists, two per diem geneticists, four pediatric genetic counselors, and a genetic counseling assistant. Additionally, a new multispecialty pediatric outpatient facility is set to open next year.

Our clinical laboratory is in the process of establishing a cutting-edge genetic and genomic testing facility to deliver comprehensive diagnostic services throughout the health system, serving the Inland Empire with a PhD laboratory geneticist and a laboratory-based genetic counselor.

The School of Medicine is also launching a newly accredited graduate program (MS) in genetic counseling, with its inaugural class starting in the fall of 2025.

Strategically located in Southern California, our Medical Center and Children's Hospital boasts the largest Level IV NICU in the state, catering to the two largest counties in the nation and approximately 25% of California's population.

The Children's Hospital is among the few centers in California offering pediatric cardiac transplants and ECMO services. It is also developing a Perinatal Care Center focused on prenatal diagnosis to better support the significant number of high-risk pregnancies and infants with congenital anomalies diagnosed before birth. Our Medical Center and Children's Hospital provide specialized team centers for conditions such as cystic fibrosis, hemoglobinopathies, spina bifida, metabolic genetics, and craniofacial anomalies.

Compensation & Benefits

The starting base salary for this position ranges from $252,000 to $278,000, depending on experience and faculty rank. This figure does not include variable compensation or additional productivity incentives and is subject to departmental compensation plans. Further details regarding compensation will be discussed during the recruitment process.
