Job description

JOB TITLE:                 Estimator - Structured Cabling/Technology Systems 

Overall Scope

The Structured Cabling/Technology Systems Estimator/Designer position works closely with our sales team, clients, and project teams to provide an understanding of the client needs and produce an estimate of materials and labor to provide the services to meet those needs.

Essential Functions

         Perform all duties as outlined below in a Positive Team environment.

         Interact with Sales, Project Team, and Clients

         Review Request for Proposals (RFP) with Team

         Develop Request for Information's (RFI) as needed

         Review & Understand Specifications as required of the RFP

         Perform physical take-offs of plans for counts of materials

         Compile information to provide an accurate cost model/estimate of labor and materials

         Interact with Distributors and Manufacturers for product pricing

         Perform write up of services to be performed based on plans and specifications

         Utilize industry knowledge to assess accuracy of RFP

         Conduct site surveys when necessary

         Identify Scope Gap that is necessary for a complete and operational system

         Design Structured Cabling Systems when required

         Compile turn over documentation for Operations Team.

         Prepare job specific submittals

         Prepare Change Orders as necessary

         Represent Walker Engineering at Trade Shows and other Industry Events

Travel Requirements:  <10%

 Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience:

 Organized, Detailed, and Accuracy Orientated

         Skillful in writing detailed Scope of Work (SOW)

         Strong Microsoft Office proficiency (Excel & Word a must)

         Working knowledge of computing programs

         Minimum 10 years of experience in structured cabling construction.

         Industry Certifications

o    RCDD Required

o    Manufacturer (CommScope, Panduit, etc.)

o    Other BICSI Certifications a plus

         Knowledge of Cabling Standards (BICSI, EIA/TIA)

         Estimating/Design experience with:

o    Mission Critical / Datacenters (Hyperscale, Colo, Enterprise, etc)

o    Healthcare (Hospitals, MOB, etc)

o    Commercial Office Buildings

o    Manufacturing

         Experience estimating projects between $1M - $5M and higher

         Conceptual Project Budgeting/Cost Modeling

         Field Installation knowledge/experience a plus

         Audio/Visual and Security Systems knowledge/experience a plus

Work Environment

 This is an onsite position based out of the Walker Irving office. This job operates in a client project environment with exposure to employees, subcontractors, and trades.

         While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

         Ability to understand meanings of words and ideas associated with them and to use them effectively.  To comprehend language, to understand relationships between words, and to understand meanings of whole sentences and paragraphs.  To present information or ideas clearly.

         This job operates in a clerical, office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.

         Ability to perform arithmetic operations quickly and accurately.

         Ability to manipulate materials and/or equipment between 10-25 lbs.

         To bend forward or down from the middle of the waist or the middle of the back, to bend downwards, to lower oneself and/or to move freely on hands and knees between 5-20 times daily
