Certified RCDD professionals typically work in the telecommunications and data center industries, where high-paying roles such as network infrastructure managers or senior technical consultants can reach or exceed $4,000 weekly with experience and certifications. These roles often require specialized skills, industry certifications, and hands-on technical knowledge but do not always require a traditional college degree.

What jobs require Rcdd certification?

Certified RCDD (Registered Communications Distribution Designer) certification is typically required for roles involving network infrastructure design, cabling, and telecommunications systems. Jobs such as network designers, systems integrators, and telecommunications project managers often need this certification to demonstrate expertise in structured cabling and infrastructure standards.

How much does a RCDD make?

A Certified RCDD (Registered Communications Distribution Designer) typically earns between $80,000 and $120,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and the complexity of projects. In California, salaries tend to be higher due to the cost of living and demand for telecommunications and network infrastructure expertise.

This approach builds a culture that is uniquely Olsson. It allows us to grow our people as we grow our business. This, in turn, creates a lasting impact on the world around us.

Job Description

Olsson's Facility Engineering and Design (FED) Team is at the forefront of engineering innovation, providing comprehensive services for data centers, healthcare facilities, large commercial developments, educational institutions, and military installations. Our expertise includes technical analysis, design services, and professional consulting, ensuring top-tier quality and world class installations. As a member of this team, you will contribute to diverse, high-impact projects, delivering engineering solutions that make a tangible difference in communities and industries.

We're looking for a Lead RCDD Designer—a technical expert who brings both precision and creativity to complex design challenges. In this role, you will guide structured cabling and communications system design efforts for data centers, mentor others in best practices, and serve as a key technical resource for both internal teams and clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead structured cabling and communications system design for data center environments, ensuring reliability, scalability, and alignment with industry standards and client requirements.
  • Leverage CAD/BIM tools to produce detailed engineering drawings including cable routing, equipment layouts, and system documentation for both new facilities and upgrades.
  • Serve as the technical authority on RCDD requirements, providing direction, quality oversight, and innovative solutions throughout project delivery.
  • Manage and oversee smaller projects from concept through completion, ensuring design excellence, clear communication, and seamless coordination across disciplines.
  • Collaborate directly with data center clients, representing Olsson's commitment to partnership, responsiveness, and exceptional service.
  • Conduct site visits as needed to verify existing conditions, support installation progress, and ensure successful project outcomes in diverse field environments.
Qualifications

You are passionate about:

  • Working collaboratively with others.
  • Having ownership in the work you do.
  • Using your talents to positively affect communities.

You bring to the team:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Team‑oriented mindset; collaborative and dependable.
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Drafting, Design, or related field (preferred).
  • 6+ years of CAD/BIM experience with Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, or similar software.
  • Active RCDD certification (required).
  • Experience producing and reviewing complex engineering drawings.
  • Preferred experience with BIM 360, Navisworks, and other collaborative design tools.
  • Understanding of structured cabling standards (BICSI, TIA/EIA, NFPA)
  • Ability to interpret technical specs and coordinate across disciplines.
  • Willingness to complete occasional job‑site visits.
