Job description

Position Title
Risk Management SpecialistDays - Full TimeUKH Olathe Pavilion Main CampusPosition Summary / Career Interest:The Risk Management Specialist oversees the event management system for the Health System-Kansas City Division. Participate in the development, implementation, and education of event management policies. Serve as a primary contact for managing events in the event management system. Assists leaders and staff in their navigation of the event management system. This position is also responsible for ensuring event management data is available to leaders to assist in reducing risk and quality improvement activities. As a member of the clinical risk management team, the risk management specialist is engaged in day-to-day risk management operations, including risk mitigation, investigations, and responding to safety events. The Risk Management Specialist is a member of the Clinical Risk Management department.Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
  • Participate in day-to-day risk management operations, including risk mitigation, investigations, and responding to safety events.
  • Monitor the event reporting system for safety trends.
  • Work closely with risk managers to ensure timely unit and department leader response to event reports and timely standard of care assignments.
  • Ensure event management data is available to leaders to assist in reducing risk and quality improvement activities.
  • Provide root cause analysis support to risk managers.
  • Inform the clinical risk management team and health system leadership when high risk trends are identified.
  • Prepare weekly event data analysis reports, run requested reports, and monitor event management system activity.
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and education of event management policies and ensure seamless use of the event reporting system.
  • Communicate timely with claims and insurance team when potentially compensable events are identified.
  • Performs special projects that involve data gathering, analysis, preparation of reports, development of recommendations and presentations.
  • Recommend educational opportunities based on event reporting trends.
  • Collaborates effectively with team members and other disciplines.
  • Able to skillfully communicate and partner with others via email, telephone and in person.
  • Uses time efficiently and effectively. Able to develop and meet project time frames.
  • Ability to work effectively from home and onsite.
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience
  • Licensed Practical Nurse OR
  • Associate Degree Nursing OR
  • Bachelors Degree in Health Care Administration OR
  • Paralegal
  • 3 or more years of experience in risk management, paralegal services, claims settlement work or clinical bedside/acute care.

Required Language Skills
  • English - Literacy requirements (read, write and speak English)

Knowledge Requirements
  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Must have strong knowledge base of report writing.
  • Experience with online database management.
  • Travel to off-site health system locations throughout the state of Kansas and Missouri.
