Job description

The Adaptive Equipment Technician is responsible to schedule and provide maintenance and repair to wheelchairs and adaptive equipment, assist therapists with adaptive equipment needs, arrange for necessary transportation and loaners, complete all required paperwork, communicate with health care professionals on adaptive equipment issues, maintain a supply and inventory, assist with departmental maintenance and supplies and participate in Agency activities.

Core Responsibilities 

    • Schedule and provide wheelchair and adaptive equipment preventive maintenance.
    • Use equipment and tools necessary to repair wheelchairs and/or adaptive equipment.
    • Work in the area of electronics, including work with 6, 12, and 24-volt batteries.
    • Schedule and provide wheelchair and adaptive equipment repairs, prioritizing requests as routine or emergency.
    • Assist therapists in assessing fabrication, modification, and repair of adaptive equipment, as needed.
    • Arrange necessary transportation and for loaner wheelchairs during maintenance and repairs.
    • Complete all required documentation according to program regulations, including daily work logs and supply inventory logs.
    • Communicate with health care professionals regarding wheelchair and adaptive equipment issues.
    • Maintain a supply and inventory of parts from non-functioning wheelchairs and other adaptive equipment to use in needed repairs.
    • Assist with departmental maintenance and supplies.
    • Participate in activities as part of the treatment team that may include meetings, attending and providing in-service trainings and committees.
    • Ensure compliance with all pertinent government and agency regulations and operating standards.
    • Establish a work environment that creates positive communication between supervisors and employees and assimilates new employees to the Agency’s culture, values and mission.

        Qualifications

          • High School Degree or equivalent
          • Must have a valid NYS Driver’s License
