What is fresh logistics?

Fresh logistics refers to the management and transportation of perishable goods, such as fruits, vegetables, dairy, meat, and seafood, that require temperature-controlled environments to maintain their quality and freshness. This field covers all processes from storage, packaging, and handling to timely delivery, ensuring products remain safe for consumption. Companies specializing in fresh logistics use refrigerated vehicles, specialized packaging, and real-time tracking to minimize spoilage and meet strict regulatory standards.

What are some common challenges faced in a Fresh Logistics role, and how can they be managed effectively?

Fresh Logistics professionals often encounter challenges such as maintaining product freshness during transport, adhering to strict temperature control standards, and meeting tight delivery schedules. Managing these requires close coordination with suppliers, drivers, and warehouse staff, as well as proficiency with cold chain technology and real-time tracking tools. Being proactive about route planning, contingency protocols, and regulatory compliance helps ensure products arrive in optimal condition and builds trust with clients and partners.

Both roles are essential in the logistics industry but differ in responsibilities, skills, and work environments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in Fresh Logistics, and why are they important?

To excel in Fresh Logistics, you need a solid understanding of supply chain management, inventory control, and cold chain processes, often supported by relevant logistics or business degrees. Familiarity with warehouse management systems (WMS), temperature monitoring technology, and certifications such as HACCP or SQF is valuable. Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills help professionals adapt to fast-paced environments and coordinate across teams. These competencies ensure the safe, efficient, and timely delivery of perishable goods, maintaining product quality and customer satisfaction.

Job description

Who We Are

Arrive Logistics is a leading transportation and technology company in North America with plans to grow significantly year over year. Our success is a testament to our remarkable team and what we’re building together. We’re committed to providing employees with a meaningful work experience and have established an award-winning culture that supports personal and career development in a fun, casual, and collaborative environment.

Who We Want

As the Director of Carrier Capacity for Arrive Fresh, you will play a critical role in expanding our high-growth produce and floral division by building and scaling an elite cold-chain carrier network. We are seeking an entrepreneurial, high-energy leader who combines deep expertise in perishable freight with a proven track record of coaching and developing high-performing capacity teams. In this position, you will establish operational standards, optimize procurement strategies, and foster key carrier partnerships to ensure premium execution in a highly volatile market. Your strong industry credibility and passion for operational excellence will directly accelerate our strategic goal of becoming a top North American freight brokerage.

What You'll Do
  • Direct the overall operations, strategy, and execution of the Arrive Fresh carrier capacity department to maximize service and buying power within the fresh produce sector.
  • Inspire, mentor, and coach Carrier Capacity Managers and Carrier Account Representatives of all tenures to build specialized sales and procurement skills.
  • Cultivate a high-performing, collaborative team culture focused on professional development, talent retention, and engagement.
  • Develop and implement robust Carrier Compliance and Claims Management programs tailored to the unique demands of temperature-controlled and perishable freight.
  • Ensure strict operational compliance with food safety regulations, including the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), Sanitary Transportation of Food (STF), and the Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act (PACA).
  • Collaborate with Business Development and Client Success leadership to align departmental goals, resolve operational bottlenecks and execute cross-functional strategic initiatives.
  • Create and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for specialized carrier procurement, onboarding, and service delivery.
  • Oversee bid management processes with growers (shippers) and key institutional customers (retail, foodservice, processor, and wholesale accounts).
  • Partner with Technology teams to enhance Transportation Management System (TMS) functionality, driving operational efficiency and a premium carrier experience.
  • Analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) such as lane pricing, tender acceptance, carrier retention, and service delivery to optimize network productivity.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain, or equivalent professional experience preferred.
  • 15+ years of relevant brokerage experience in third-party logistics (3PL) or freight brokerage operations.
  • 10+ years of dedicated experience in produce and floral logistics, with deep knowledge of perishable cold-chain capacity procurement.
  • 6+ years of logistics leadership experience managing, coaching, and scaling carrier capacity or carrier sales teams.
  • Proven expertise in food safety regulations including FSMA, STF, and PACA, with experience building specialized carrier compliance programs.
  • Demonstrated experience in bid management, carrier contract negotiations, and transportation network pricing.
  • Expertise in leveraging modern Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and analytical platforms to track and improve carrier performance.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with a bold leadership presence and a solutions-oriented mindset.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has direct supervisory responsibilities over Carrier Account Representatives specializing in produce and floral logistics.
