Position: Maintenance Mechanic I, 2nd shift 
Department: Maintenance 
Reports To: Team Lead 
Salary Type: Non-Exempt
Location: Irwindale, CA 
Pay: $23.50 an hour

Position Summary:

This role supports production by safely maintaining equipment to produce the highest quality.  Assist with diagnosing and repairing simple and complex manufacturing equipment issues, and perform routine maintenance tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Follow good manufacturing practices, personal protective equipment requirements, and safety guidelines.
  • Assist with changing motors, pulleys, gear boxes and belting.
  • Working knowledge of use of standard hand tools such as wrenches, hammers, bearing pullers, etc.
  • Perform basic mechanical adjustments like tensioning drive belts, conveyor belts, tracking belts and chains.
  • Assist with replacing automated equipment mechanical components.
  • Assist with performing simple plumbing repairs such as unclogging drains, replace faucets, and toilet repairs.  
  • Replace slicer, cutter, dicer blade assemblies and perform necessary adjustments.
  • Works safely around moving equipment  and conveyors in a wet environment
  • Handle blade housing
  • Lock out/Tag out equipment as necessary
  • Safely operate shop equipment such as power tools
  • Comply with SQF Regulatory Programs
  • Knowledge and understanding of how to maintain a safe work environment, Practice safe lifting techniques.
  • Assist with troubleshooting simple mechanical systems and performing preventive maintenance.
  • Read and complete work orders and paperwork.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Willingness and flexibility to work in a cold environment
  • Mechanical and Electrical aptitude
  • Chain drive sprocket and gearbox 
  • Working knowledge of cleaning and degreasing techniques
  • Reading, Writing, Speaking English Preferred 
  • Safety Guidelines, Understand efficiencies and downtime
  • Ability to work in fast paced environment, to be crossed trained & multitask in multiple position
  • At least 0-1 years of experience and basic mechanical skills
  • GED/High School Diploma Preferred

Physical Work Environment: 

While performing the duties of this job, this position entails use of ladders and catwalks to reach production equipment, regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to extreme cold for extended periods of time. The associate frequently works in high, precarious places. The associate is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
