Position Summary:
South Academy of International Languages is a three-decade-old K-8 public language immersion magnet school. We are seeking a French Teaching Assistant who will work closely with elementary students, primarily in kindergarten and first grade, as they are exposed to core subject areas while immersed in French. The candidate will be responsible for assisting the lead teacher in implementing engaging and interactive lessons that align with the North Carolina Curriculum standards. Additionally, the candidate will contribute to creating a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment that promotes the academic, social, and emotional growth of students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the lead teacher to plan and deliver age-appropriate French language lessons that foster student engagement and comprehension.
- Embrace a diverse range of students, inspiring growth in ALL regardless of ability or personal background.
- Provide one-on-one or small group support to students in core subject area content and language skill development.
- Assist in the creation of instructional materials and resources to enhance learning experiences and accommodate diverse learning styles.
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom culture where students feel valued, respected, and supported in their language learning journey.
- Support the lead teacher in assessing student progress and development, providing feedback, and adjusting instructional strategies as needed.
Qualifications:
- Fluency in French (written and spoken) is required.
- Experience working with young children in an educational setting is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and parents.
- Flexibility, patience, and enthusiasm for working with diverse learners and adapting instruction to meet individual needs.
