Job description

Description
Optometric Technician in Training
Where Precision Meets Compassion.
You don't need eye care experience to build a career at Dr. Tavel-but you do need focus, discipline, and a genuine desire to help others.
As an Optometric Tech in Training, you'll serve as the doctor's right hand-conducting pre-tests, gathering vital health information, and ensuring every patient is prepped for an exceptional experience. It's technical. It's fast-paced. And it's meaningful work that makes a lasting impact.
We will teach you the skills to be successful in this position. In return, we ask that you bring a willingness to learn, a heart for patient care, and attention to the details that make a difference.
Daily Responsibilities:
• Perform pre-tests and diagnostic procedures with accuracy and efficiency.
• Collect and document patient medical histories and current health information.
• Communicate effectively with doctors and help manage clinic flow.
• Maintain clean, functional equipment for a seamless patient experience.
• Assist with insurance verification, eligibility checks, and benefit authorizations.
• Stay current with training and actively work to grow your skills.
• Ability to travel to support other locations only if needed.
This Role Is NOT for You If:
• You struggle with multitasking or time management.
• You have difficulty following detailed procedures or instructions.
• You dislike direct communication or working closely with providers.
• You feel overwhelmed in clinical or fast-paced environments.
• You're uncomfortable with routine or precision-based work.
You will be a GREAT Fit If:
• You enjoy working behind the scenes while still being part of a patient-centered team.
• You're looking for a true career with long-term growth-not just a job.
• You take pride in getting the details right the first time.
• You're comfortable with technology and quick to learn new systems.
• You communicate clearly and professionally, especially with providers.
• You stay calm, focused, and organized in fast-paced clinical settings.
• You take the initiative and don't wait to be told what to do next.
• Availability to work during office hours (including some Saturdays).
Perks & Benefits:
• Paid Time Off and Paid Holidays
• 401(k) Retirement Plan
• Health, Dental, and Rx Insurance
• 100% Paid Parental Leave
• Free Eye Exams & Glasses (including immediate and extended family discounts)
• Company-Paid Life Insurance
Starting Pay: $17.00/hour base
o Opportunities to complete Certifications for additional wage increases!
Bilingual Pay Eligibility: fluency in another language(s), increase to base pay below:
o Spanish, ASL, French Creole & Burmese
Before You Apply, Know This:
• You must attend a mandatory two-week paid training (no absences)-this is where your journey starts, and we invest heavily in making sure you're set up for success
• Prior medical, clinical, or pharmacy experience is helpful, but not required-we hire for attitude, teach for skill
• You'll work some Saturdays-because our patients need us then too
This Is More Than a Job. It's Your Start.
If you take your work seriously, care about helping others, and are ready to grow-we'd love to meet you.
This is the first step in building a meaningful career with real purpose, professional development, and the chance to impact lives every day. You'll gain hands-on experience, grow your skills, and become part of a supportive team that values excellence and compassion.
If you're ready to do work that matters, we're ready to invest in your future. Apply today!
