Job description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 1 Trauma academic medical center, requiring a NC or compact RN license and telemetry experience.
Job Details
• Work on a Medical/Surgical Overflow unit within a Level 1 Trauma academic medical center,
• 8-bed unit with an average daily census of 8 patients,
• Patient population includes general medical, cardiac, pneumonia, UTI, chest pain, and fluid overload cases,
• RN to patient ratio of 1:4 and CNA to patient ratio of 1:8,
• 12-hour night shift schedule (1900-0700) with 36 standard hours per week,
• Every other weekend (EOW) rotation required,
• No on-call or call-back requirements,
• Floating required to Rehab, 4 Ardmore, 10 Reynolds, 9 Reynolds, 5 Ardmore, Burn-10 North, and Throughput Unit,
• Telemetry monitors located on the unit with RNs responsible for reading and interpreting cardiac rhythm strips,
• Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Omnicell medication dispensing system,
• Unit-specific equipment includes PCAs, trachs, and complex wound care supplies,
• Support staff includes CNAs, receptionist/HUC, charge nurse, phlebotomy for peripheral blood draws, and 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage,
• RNs are responsible for starting their own IVs as there is no dedicated IV/VAT team,
Job Requirements
• Active RN license (NC or Compact) currently in hand,
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS,
• Minimum 1 year of recent core experience in Med/Surg Tele or similar specialty area,
• Travel experience preferred,
• Skills required include PCA management, surgical drain care, wound care, telemetry cardiac rhythm interpretation, and experience or willingness to learn Cardizem/Amiodarone drips,
• Epic EMR experience preferred,
• Must provide last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth for consideration,
• Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN,
Additional Information
• Provide direct patient care on a busy Med/Surg overflow unit within a nationally recognized academic medical center featuring a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center designation,
• Read and interpret telemetry strips throughout the shift as part of primary nursing responsibilities,
• Collaborate with a supportive care team including CNAs, HUC, charge nurse, and 24/7 hospitalist, intensivist, and RT coverage,
• Complete facility orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation,
• Royal blue scrub color required,
• Free parking available on site,
• Unit culture described as friendly with a strong academic medical center environment,
• Holiday coverage required for approximately 75% of holidays,
• Clinical interview required prior to placement,
• Must live outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to be eligible for the travel position, as local candidates are not accepted,
• Returning travelers must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position,
• First-time travelers may be considered, though travel experience is preferred
