What is freelance web optimization?

Freelance web optimization refers to the work of independent professionals who improve websites to enhance their performance, speed, and visibility in search engines. These freelancers analyze website elements like loading times, mobile responsiveness, and SEO to ensure the site meets best practices and delivers a better user experience. They often work on a project or contract basis for various clients, rather than being employed by a single company. Their goal is to help businesses attract more visitors and achieve higher conversion rates by making technical and content-based improvements.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a freelance web optimization specialist?

To thrive as a Freelance Web Optimization Specialist, you need expertise in web analytics, SEO, A/B testing, and front-end development, often supported by experience with digital marketing or computer science. Familiarity with tools like Google Analytics, SEMrush, and content management systems, as well as certifications in Google Analytics or SEO, are typically required. Strong problem-solving, communication, and project management skills help you stand out when collaborating with clients or adapting to varying project needs. These skills are essential to effectively improve website performance, drive traffic, and deliver measurable results for diverse clients.

What are some common challenges faced by freelance web optimization specialists when working with diverse clients?

Freelance Web Optimization specialists often encounter challenges such as aligning client expectations with realistic outcomes, especially when clients are unfamiliar with SEO or web performance concepts. Additionally, each client may use different website platforms and tools, requiring adaptability and continuous learning. Effective communication is crucial to clearly explain optimization strategies and progress, particularly when collaborating remotely. Managing multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously also requires strong organizational skills to deliver consistent, high-quality results.

Visit Dallas is committed to fostering a culture that values trust, respect, accountability, community and empowerment. We will demonstrate leadership that promotes inclusion and equal employment opportunities, and provide a work environment that is safe, healthy, harmonious, positive, professional and productive. This includes promoting collaboration where all team members are encouraged to participate and contribute to the achievement of our goals in service of our customers and community.

We are committed to ensuring that our team members feel welcome and have an equal opportunity to connect, belong, and grow within the Visit Dallas Team. We encourage team members to make a positive contribution to the organization, our community and the hospitality industry, to elevate their skills and to be comfortable and confident as their authentic selves within the framework of professional guidelines that we have established as a team.

Position Summary:

The Multimedia Content Producer leads photo and video content creation for Visit Dallas, capturing, shooting, and editing high-quality video and photography that bring Dallas to life. The person in this role owns content production from concept and field capture through editing, motion graphics, and platform-ready delivery, creating assets for social, web, email, and campaign channels. This role also oversees the organization’s digital asset library, keeping content well-organized and accessible for use across the team, and promotes Dallas as a vibrant, welcoming and must-visit destination.

Role and responsibilities overview:

Field Video Production

  • Travel throughout Dallas to capture original video and photography at attractions, restaurants, events, music venues, and neighborhoods.
  • Plan and execute shoots, including scouting, scheduling, lighting, audio, and on-site direction of subjects and talent.
  • Coordinate with external videographers, photographers, and freelancers when production needs exceed in-house capacity.
  • Operate and maintain camera, audio, lighting, and stabilization equipment.

Editing & Post-Production

  • Edit and finish video content using tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro, including color, audio, and basic motion graphics.
  • Produce platform-optimized cuts, long-form video and web assets.
  • Ensure all content aligns with Visit Dallas brand standards, tone, and visual identity.

Content Strategy & Repurposing

  • Partner with the Social Media Manager and Digital Marketing Specialist to plan a pipeline of video content tied to marketing campaigns and the content calendar.
  • Repurpose long-form footage into multiple short-form, multi-platform assets to maximize the value of every shoot.
  • Recommend new formats, trends, and storytelling techniques to keep Visit Dallas content fresh and competitive.
  • Capture video footage and still photography of Sales-related activities, networking events, leadership receptions and industry conferences as needed to support Visit Dallas sales initiatives.
  • Partner with the Director of Marketing to ensure all outside projects remain within budget and defined project scope.

AI-Enabled Production

Note: Visit Dallas does not use AI as a generative content creation tool. We use AI to enable our processes effectively and efficiently, while all photo and video content is captured and produced by our team.

  • Apply AI tools to accelerate editing, transcription, captioning, repurposing, and asset tagging, while maintaining quality, authenticity, and brand voice.
  • Use AI-assisted workflows to scale output, turning a single shoot into a high volume of platform-ready assets.
  • Stay current on emerging AI video and content tools and recommend practical applications for the team.

Asset Management

  • Organize, tag, and maintain the Visit Dallas photo and video library (e.g., Brandfolder, CrowdRiff) for easy reuse across the team.
  • Manage raw footage, project files, and final exports with clear, consistent file organization.
  • Source, procure, and manage b-roll footage to supplement original production and meet content needs.
  • Manage usage rights across all assets, including securing talent releases when applicable, maintaining records of usage terms (including license duration when not a buy-out), and updating the library accordingly by removing assets once their usage rights expire.
  • Work with legal counsel to ensure contracts and agreements are executed as needed with freelancers and other outside vendors.

ADDITIONAL Responsibilities:
  • Support social, web, and email teams with quick-turn content needs.
  • Contribute to the organization’s safe, healthy, harmonious, positive, professional and productive work environment and culture.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Expected competencies, performance attributes and characteristics:
  • Strong hands-on skills in shooting and editing video for digital platforms, including proficiency with Adobe Premiere Pro (and ideally After Effects or comparable tools).
  • Working knowledge of camera, lighting, and audio equipment, with the ability to produce high-quality content in varied field conditions.
  • Experience using AI tools (e.g., editing, transcription, and captioning) to increase output and efficiency, with sound judgment on authenticity and quality.
  • Photography skills and a strong eye for visual storytelling, composition, and brand consistency.
  • Familiarity with digital asset management systems (e.g., Brandfolder, CrowdRiff) and disciplined file organization.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management abilities to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with internal teams, partners, talent, and external vendors.
  • Enthusiastic and eager to learn, with a growth mindset toward acquiring new skills.

Desired education and experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in film, video production, digital media, marketing, communications, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Proven experience (3-5 years) in video production and editing, preferably within marketing, tourism or the hospitality industry.
  • A portfolio demonstrating photo and video production is required.
  • Proficiency with video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro) and familiarity with content creation tools.

Work environment and physical demands:

The person in this role will operate in an office environment with frequent and consistent use of a laptop computer, monitor, keyboard, mouse, cell phone and other related equipment. It is largely a sedentary role with extended working time sitting. There may be occasions working at off-site locations where the environment will vary.

Evening and weekend work and participation in events that occur outside of the regular office hours is expected occasionally. Visit Dallas offers an optional hybrid work schedule where most team members may work from home on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
