They ensure that students using VA educational benefits, such as the GI Bill, receive accurate certification and support. These freelancers may work on a contract basis, providing services to multiple schools or organizations that do not have full-time VA certifying staff. Their responsibilities include verifying eligibility, submitting enrollment certifications, and staying current with VA regulations. This role requires strong attention to detail and a thorough understanding of VA benefits processes.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a freelance VA certifying official?

To thrive as a Freelance VA Certifying Official, you need a thorough understanding of VA education benefits, compliance regulations, and certification procedures, often supported by relevant training or prior experience in higher education administration. Familiarity with the VA’s Education Certification System (VA-ONCE), student information systems, and secure document management tools is essential. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and clear communication are crucial soft skills for accurately processing certifications and advising students.
