Job description

SUMMARY

The Harris-Stowe State University Part-Time Strength & Conditioning Coach is responsible for developing, implementing, and supervising comprehensive strength and conditioning programs for the University's intercollegiate athletic programs. The successful candidate will promote athletic performance, injury prevention, and overall student-athlete wellness while fostering an environment of discipline, accountability, and excellence.

The Strength & Conditioning Coach will collaborate with head coaches, athletic trainers, and athletic administration to provide safe, effective, and sport-specific training programs. This position reports to the Athletic Director and works in accordance with the policies, rules, and regulations of Harris-Stowe State University, the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), and the America Midwest Conference (AMC). Employees in this position may be subject to the terms and conditions of an employment contract, typically reviewed and renewed annually.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design, implement, and supervise year-round strength and conditioning programs for assigned athletic teams.

• Develop sport-specific training programs that improve strength, speed, power, agility, flexibility, endurance, and overall athletic performance.

• Work collaboratively with athletic trainers to assist with injury prevention and appropriate return-to-play protocols.

• Supervise student-athletes during all scheduled strength and conditioning sessions while maintaining a safe training environment.

• Teach proper lifting techniques and ensure appropriate use of strength and conditioning equipment.

• Monitor student-athlete progress and maintain records of participation and performance.

• Assist coaches in developing off-season conditioning and summer workout programs.

• Promote discipline, teamwork, accountability, and leadership among student-athletes.

• Maintain cleanliness, organization, and inventory of the strength and conditioning facility.

• Ensure compliance with all University, NAIA, AMC, and departmental policies regarding strength and conditioning activities.

• Attend departmental meetings and other meetings as assigned.

• Model and teach the NAIA Champions of Character Five Core Values: Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, Sportsmanship, and Servant Leadership.

• Promote the philosophy, mission, and values of Harris-Stowe State University and the Department of Athletics.

• Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.

• Promote philosophy of the athletic department and HSSU University


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

•Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Performance, Exercise Physiology, or a closely related field required; Master's degree preferred.

•Current Strength and Conditioning certification through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA-CSCS) or Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCa-SCCC) required.

•Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications required.

•Previous collegiate strength and conditioning coaching experience preferred.

•Experience working with multiple sports and diverse student-athlete populations preferred.

•Strong knowledge of strength training principles, sports performance, injury prevention, and exercise prescription.

•Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.


OTHER REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES

Physical and Communication Requirements: The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation. This may include the ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods; use a computer, telephone, and other standard office equipment; review and process information presented in electronic and printed formats; and communicate effectively with colleagues, students, visitors, and other individuals in person, by telephone, and in other work-related settings.

Must have the physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to waist height; and to bend, to stoop, to sit on the floor, to climb stairs, to walk and to reach overhead.
