The base salary range for this position is dependent upon experience and location, ranging from:

Job Summary

This individual is responsible for supporting Avangrid's Wind Turbine and Solar PV fleet and for resolving issues related to civil and structural systems, including roads, foundations, tower structures, and site infrastructure. Leads the launch of businesses or solutions for the company, anticipating key trends for the future of the company and the sector, quantifying their evolution and impact and ensuring that they are included in the company's decision-making processes. Analyzes and evaluates business opportunities related to civil works. Identifies, analyzes and compares opportunities, Designs and develops prototypes and elaborates proposals, including feasibility studies. Plans and executes strategies to meet long-range business goals.

As a Senior Professional: Has specialized depth and/or breadth of expertise. Solves or leads on complex problems and actively participates in the design of new solutions or improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as SME and mentor on civil engineering issues; identify trends, quantify their impact, and advise more junior engineers on structural and foundation related problems.

  • Lead and guide investigations into the root cause of failures in foundations, tower structures, roads, and site infrastructure, and review/approve corrective measures.

  • Identify, qualify, and manage external civil engineering and foundation and consultants as necessary to support technical investigations and remediation.

  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to prioritize civil engineering initiatives and develop documentation to communicate these priorities to the business.

  • Lead meetings with OEMs and civil contractors; represent the company in technical/business reviews to resolve structural and site-related issues.

  • Identify and propose engineering studies with the aim of improving the reliability and performance of key Wind turbine components; manage these studies utilizing both internal and external resources.

  • Review designs, design modifications and corrective measures proposed by OEMs and permitting authorities (e.g., BLM) and make recommendations regarding approval.

  • Ensure compliance with Avangrid's civil engineering standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Support operating fleet with civil engineering expertise to maintain a safe working environment and maximize asset availability.

  • Represent Avangrid at industry forums; contribute to development of civil engineering standards and provide feedback to regulatory bodies.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering or equivalent technical field.

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in civil/structural engineering, preferably in renewables industry.

  • Demonstrated record of superior professional performance in foundation design, and structural modeling.

  • Ability to prepare and develop formal documentation, technical reports, and presentations.

  • Advanced computer skills in civil/structural analysis tools (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D, STAAD.Pro, SAP2000, RISA, or equivalent).

  • Experience with geotechnical analysis, foundation design, and structural modeling.

  • Experience with measurement systems, and the demonstrated ability to set up and analyze data.

  • Working knowledge of relevant industry standards (e.g., ACI, ASTM, ASCE, OSHA, IEC).

  • Familiarity with permitting processes and compliance requirements for civil works.

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations with limited standardization.

  • Ability to work in the field, inspect foundations and site infrastructure, and occasionally climb 100-meter-tall steel towers, and lift up 50 lbs.

  • Expertise with schematics (electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, etc.) and single-line diagrams.

  • Must work well under pressure from job demands, multi-tasking ability essential.

  • Flexibility to travel up to 10% of the time and work in the field.
