Freelance software developers are not tied to a single employer and typically work with multiple clients or companies on a project-by-project basis. Re-posted 8 days ago

Job description

VVater is a US-based, next-generation water treatment company that aims to provide Water for All Humankind with a cornerstone of sustainability and a promise of a better, healthier tomorrow. Servicing various industries and markets around the world, including Real Estate & Aquatics, Municipal & Wastewater Treatment, Food & Beverage, and Oil & Gas, our focus is on recovering and recycling different waters in a centralized or distributed way. The company also provides recreational quality water for artificial beaches, urban lagoons, wave pools, and surf parks, as well as ultra-pure and potable water for a variety of uses.

The Municipal & Wastewater sector plays a vital role in maintaining public health and environmental sustainability. It involves the development and implementation of solutions for water treatment, waste management, and infrastructure development in municipalities. This dynamic sector demands innovation, strategic planning, and a commitment to creating sustainable solutions. As the VP of Sales, you will be at the forefront of navigating the Municipal & Wastewater market. Your strategic vision will be instrumental in identifying and capitalizing on business opportunities, fostering key relationships with municipal clients, and leading a high-performance sales team. With a focus on understanding municipal needs, regulatory requirements, and solution-based selling, you'll drive revenue growth and contribute to the continued success of VVater.
Reporting directly to the SVP of Sales, the VP of Sales Municipal & Wastewater will own and drive all revenue growth across VVater's municipal and wastewater treatment verticals. This is a quota-carrying, player-coach role for a proven closer who can build a pipeline, navigate complex government procurement cycles, lead RFP responses, and establish VVater as the dominant name in advanced direct potable reuse and wastewater reclamation across the United States and internationally.

You will build the playbook, build the team, and build the revenue, in that order. If you thrive on complexity, are energized by long-cycle enterprise and government deals, and want to plant your flag on one of the most important industries of the next century, this is your seat.

At VVater, starting salaries are expressed as base salaries for sales roles. Additional compensation from sales commissions and short-term incentives are also part of the compensation package for a VP of Sales.

VP of Municipal & Wastewater Sales responsibilities are:

  • Exceeding monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets
  • Implementing and executing strategic plans
  • Building and maintaining good customer relationships
  • Communicating effectively among clients and higher managers
  • Creating reports on sales performance
  • Understanding category-specific landscapes and trends
  • Extensive experience with the management of CRM-based software like Salesforce or Hubspot.
  • Establish sales objectives through forecasting in a sales process
  • Develop annual sales quotas for regions and territories
  • Implement national sales programs by developing field sales action plans and reviewing sales performance
  • Maintain sales volume, product mix, and selling price by keeping current with supply and demand, changing trends, economic indicators, and competitors.
  • Establish and adjust sales prices by monitoring costs, competitors, and supply-and-demand indicators.
  • Complete sales operation requirements by scheduling, assigning sales team members, and following up on work results.
  • Maintained national sales staff through regular recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training.
  • Employ assistance from sales-focused freelancers or consultants to ensure quotas are consistently met.
  • Recruiting and hiring sales staff and developing training programs.
  • Project expected sales volume and profit for new and existing products.
  • Working with the marketing department to design print and online promotional materials for the company's products and services.
  • Monitoring the market, competitor products, and activities, and providing detailed sales forecasting.
  • Creating sales reports and providing feedback to the leadership team at company meetings.

VP of Municipal & Wastewater Sales requirements are:

  • BA/BSc in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Marketing, Business, or related field / MA/MSc would be preferred
  • 10+ years of progressive B2B sales experience, with a minimum of 5 years selling into municipal water, wastewater, or environmental infrastructure markets
  • Demonstrated track record of closing complex, high-value contracts ($500K$10M+) with government and municipal entities
  • Deep understanding of municipal procurement processes, including competitive bidding, sole-source justification, and public funding mechanisms
  • Experience navigating multi-stakeholder government sales cycles involving city councils, utility boards, engineering consultants, and legal teams
  • Prior experience in water treatment, environmental engineering, or clean technology sectors strongly preferred
  • Proven ability to recruit, lead, and scale a sales team in a high-growth or startup environment
  • Strong financial acumen ability to build and present compelling ROI and life-cycle cost analyses for capital equipment and services
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; comfortable presenting to executive and elected audiences
  • CRM proficiency, ideally HubSpot; fluency in sales reporting and pipeline management
  • Bachelor's degree required; engineering background or technical water industry knowledge is a significant plus
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% our clients are everywhere

The ideal candidate for this role is not just a sales professional; they are a mission-driven operator. They understand that water is not a commodity; it is a responsibility. They possess the tenacity to pursue long procurement cycles without losing momentum, the credibility to walk into a city council chamber and command the room, and the builder's instinct to create something that lasts.
